PTO Shaft Cover

When my tractor arrived it had two small short chains on either end of the shaft sleeve. Are these supposed to stay connected so the sleeve doesn't rotate with shaft?

Yes, clip them to something above until you get so frustrated you tear the darn thing off.

I figured they had to go back on. So, reattached them this morning.

OK, I have to ask, why you would get so frustrated???

I dunno, they never bothered me any.. The one on the rotary cutter end stays clipped onto one of the supports, and the one on the tractor PTO end is easily clipped on to a hole in the PTO shield made for that purpose. Works for me.

Last week I bought a new PTO shaft from Darrell Harp Enterprises, the mfg of my Big Bee rotary cutter, for my cutter. The covers on it were really difficult to remove and get back on and the plastic was very hard making it almost impossible to attach or remove the shaft from the tractor.
I have two Wallenstein shafts and two others that are a lot easier to attach and remove. I've also had others break the little plastic chain holder so the chain does not stop the cover from spinning, so the cover just spins around.
