pto reversal gearbox

I have a massey ferguson 165 tractor standard 540 pto and want to reverse the pto at the rear of the tractor for an implement that was previously owned and mounted to the front of a different tractor's pto.

My question;
Is there a simple gear box available to achieve reversing the pto direction 1:1 ratio? (no other gears needed)

I am aware that there is a ground speed reverse pto when backing up but this does not provide adequate rotation and I need to move forward at 540 rpm for this application.

I don't know what you are trying to run, but many front mount pto's ran at 1,000 rpm instead of 540.

You need to make sure what rpm your front mount tool requires...

Its an alamo shd88 flail mower at 540 rpm, thanks for the concern, yes they have parts to reverse to drive pulley, cost is about 500 USD to my door, am trying to find a working one on someones shelf for arond 350. USD ..thanks for the input rob

You can make one. I did it in the past but I will half to think how I did it. I think I put one gear on a shaft with bearing on the end and this hooked to the PTO. I then added another gear on one side of this gear to spin the direction I wanted. If I remember right with the lower gear if you put it on one side it spins the same direction as the PTO and the other side spins the oppsite direction. This may not be right as it has been almost 40 years ago. I do know that it is still in use yet today

A simple two gear set up ALWAYS REVERSES ROTATION DIRECTION. The hard part is holding the two gears in proper mesh.

Two chain sprockets with the same set up ALWAYS MAINTAINS ROTATION DIRECTION.

You need to get info from this forum where reverse pto is a frequent problem with Grey market Kubota and others.

Depending upon the application, it is sometimes possible to turn the gearbox on the implement to an upside down position and reverse an output. It always requires careful study.

See this tech info from Comer. The gearbox is made to mount with either the top or bottom flipped over so the top becomes the bottom and the outputs reverse. Look down the images on the right. 1 & 2 are reversing rotation with the same gear box as do all the other pairs. The gearboxes have mounting holes on the top and bottom. The drain and fill level plugs reverse jobs when you flip it.
