Guys,
I have a 5300 MFWD and it seems the PTO brake is not keeping the output shaft from turning when not engaged. As soon as I start the engine, with the PTO control lever disengaged it will start the blades on my Bush Hog 287 to spinning. If I drag it through enough tall grass/weeds disengaged it will stop turning. When the tractor fluids are still cold the blades while go back to spinning as soon as I lift the cutter, however most times after a couple hours of cutting if I slow to idle, disengage the PTO and drag through more tall stuff it will stay stopped and there seems to be a bit of drag on the, what I call "no spin" brake.
Enough back story. I have misplaced my danged repair manual CD and am wondering if anyone here happens to have one. What I am wondering is where the pto shaft brake is located and what is involved in repairing/replacing if it is not adjustable. My hope is that it is at the back end and accessible from there, however my fear is that to get to it will require splitting the case.
Can anyone offer some input or help??? Thanks in advance.
