Are pto output shafts a standard size. The reason im asking is I am looking for a rear mount snowblower for my 224 jinma .Also my son is a metal fabricator fresh out of college and has a few attachement ideas for me.

Generally yes, however there are some basic differences, mostly between the standard 540 rpm and 1000 rpm splines. Your tractor is listed at both 540 and 1000 rpm. Does it have a shift lever to speed up the PTO? I am always nervous about those tractors as they use a 540 spline but can run the faster rpm. MANY 540 implements ARE NOT rated for use at 1000 rpm.

All 540 and 720 r/m PTO shafts are six spline, 1-3/8" diameter.
All 1,000 r/m PTO shafts are 21 spline, 1-1/2" diameter.
These are ASAE standards.
Enter the Chinese tractors, some of which are capable of producing 1,000 r/m on a six spline shaft. There's a caveat there.
You can purchase adapters to convert either way.

I know some tractors from Japan have been able to run the 540 style shaft at 1000 rpm as well. Be very careful as serious injury can occur if an implement rated at only 540 rpm can fail when run at 1000 rpm.

thanks for the replies. Since I have a tractor rated at 18 hp I would also have to take that into consideration when shopping for the blower. Would you know what width would be recommended for these tractors?. I purchased this tractor second hand with no manual .Yes Tom it does have the shift lever.

Two speed PTO's are more common than you might think. On our farm we had an early 70's David Brown 990 tractor made in England that had a two speed 540/1000 RPM PTO.

It had the standard spline.

Our 885 Case/David Brown is the same way. Put it in 1000 RPM and you can just ease around while bush hogging.

My Jinma has 540/720 rpm options. I find this a better choice than the 540/1000rpm - though I must admit to not having anything that requires 1000 rpm. Mine also has the same standard spline - use a 1986 Allied snow blower on it with no problems at either speed.
