We have had more power outages here in the past 6 months than the past 6 yrs. what is the best setup for the 2520?

Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at any options available? Are there any you have found that will run off the PTO ? What is your PTO hp rating?

How many watts are you thinking? Takes about 2 hp for 1kw.

Is this the 65 hp 2520, or the 25 hp 2520?

Similar thing happened to me last fall....was in a bind and picked up this Deere unit.
Used it for 4 hours and then I returned it back to the dealer. Nothing wrong with the unit, worked GREAT, but I just couldnt see the point of letting my poor baby (aka 3520 ) sit there turning WOT for hours on end...
Ended up getting this Kubota GL6500 GenSet...MUCH better Solution. Less power (PTO unit in Pic is a 10k, This Kubota is a 6.5k), but its way quieter and more fuel efficient....actually BETTER power output as well, on the PTO Generator I could see some "wobble" in the intentisty of the Incandescent light bulbs, with this Kubota, everything is as if I'm still on the grid.
IMO...I'd stay away from a PTO Generator for extended use type applications...now if you wanted to run a welder or so out in the brush to fix a fence, I'd probably say PTO is the way to go.

We installed a 20kw Generac Standby Generator. My reason was if I was not home the wife would not be able to set it up. If my power goes out, 5 seconds later the generator starts it self up and runs the WHOLE house. We live in the country and have a lot of 220 requirements (well, geothermal, stove etc). It has worked very well. It is not economical to run vs power company prices, but I don't have to fill it with $4.15 gal diesel and am not putting hrs on the tractor.

I have a 2000w inverter and it works most excellent for what it is and have a 10hp standard generator that sux the fuel down. Tecumseh junk engine on it. i bought it in a pinch many years ago. I figured the pto generator would be as you guys have said Costly hours on the tractor inefficient.

Like you I have an onan that is in on the automatic transfer switch and it runs the whole house. When we lose power it is for days and with two small babies you need power. It is nice to know that when the power goes out at 2am the generator is going to start....

When the snow is blowing or the rain is coming down, I listen to it crank and then run then I roll over and go back to sleep!!

I use a 10 KW on my 2320 and it works just fine. Runs everything in the house and barn except the electric furnace. That would make it puke its guts.

What did you decide on? Both types have benefits.

For the farm we always used kw times 1.7 to get the hp needed. 10kw x 1.7 = 17 hp required to run the generator.

Nothing yet, just going to wait and see what becomes available..I like inverters the best, but they are pricey..
