I bought a 2000 Lk3054 from my father-in-law and the pto grinds the gears when engaging and has to be forced when disengaged and yes I have the clutch pedal push all the way down. I assume that it has a dual clutch that operates the drive and the pto, am I correct in that assumption? If so has anybody else had that problem and what did you do about it? My father-in-law says it has been that way since it was new?
Thanks for the help,
Lou

Lou,
Maybe this will help...Although I have not had any response to my PTO clutch question. I called Little Tractor Sales in Metropolis, IL and got this information:
When sitting on the seat you will be looking at your right foot. Get on the ground beside that side of your tractor and you will see an inspection plate (probably has a sticker on it with info. about the valve just below it). You can remove this plate and get to your clutch. There are I think three adjustment bolts with lock nuts on them. Back the lock nuts off and tighten the adjustment bolts down to 15-20 thousands (use a gapping guage for this)and re-tighten the lock nuts. Probably a tight area tight to work from. But, do one then turn 1/3 round (whole clutch), do the second one and another third round and get the last one.
My situation is opposite...I have no PTO and have to back mine out a bit.
You may be told to split the tractor, buy an $800 whole clutch assembly and so on. However, I would try this first as that is why we come on here. To get help not for advertisers to trick us into their shops.
I don't know if this will help you or not. I hope so.
THANKS TO LITTLE TRACTOR for the HELPFUL information!!!

Lou,
Me again...I'm in west Ky...Madisonville. Metropolis is like in Superman. Don't even know if I spelled it correctly. But, if you look them up on whitepages.com they are easy to find. Call and ask for their shop if what I wrote is as clear as mud. They can and unlike some dealers you see on here WILL help you.
Thanks,
Kelly

The adjustment bolts set the gapping for the 2nd clutch pack. Before you try to adjust those bolts, check the free play of the clutch pedal. You should have about 3/4" free play before the first stage of the clutch. If you have too much free play, you will not properly compress the 2nd pressure plate spring.

To set the pedal free play, look under the left side of the tractor. You will see the adjustment nut under the left floor board. Loosen the jamb nut and set the free play if it needs adjusting.

Setting the free play properly takes care of a good number of 2 stage clutch issues. We would check this before changing the clutch spacer bolts.

If you do move the spacer bolts, be sure to use Loc-Tite when re-setting the spacing.

MIE,
I have the opposite problem. Clutch feels fine. But, when PTO is in and clutch is let out...no PTO turning. The guy at the dealership I mentioned said to I needed to back out mine as opposed to bringing them in like Lou's situation.
I had proper travel and tried to adjust it several different ways. Nothing.
It did work before I put the drive clutchplate in. Now it doesn't.
I was not dogging you or most other dealer/advertisers on here. I just got back a message from one that kind of said buy a factory set new clutch. Where I priced one it was close to $800.00 bucks.
Glad to see you responding to posters with good advice.
Kelly

Thanks guys, I'll try the free play adjustment first, the spacing adjustment sound a little more difficult. I'll let you know.
Thanks again,
Lou
