PT1850 for Sale

/ PT1850 for Sale #2
Saw a PT1850 for sale on Ebay. Not cheap but it did have some nice implements.

He says it needs a $4500 wheel motor, I didn't think they cost that much.

I'd be surprised if the wheel motor was that expensive. Who knows. Not a bad deal though those are expensive attachments.

They are crazy expensive. Not 4500 (although with labor it probably is). I think they were 3500 last time I called which was a few years ago. Rebuilding is $ 1500.

Yeah, I dont get that about the ad?
He is in the lawn business and it's not worth paying to rebuild the existing wheel motor instead of buying a new one? Like you said 1500 rebuild and you are back in business? Does PT do wheel rebuilds?

Wish he had a brush grapple as an attachment. I am finding my 4 in 1 bucket lacking in picking up and moving alot of brush.

I didn't like using my 4 in 1 for picking. It was only good for dumping material with the arms all the way up and no room to tilt the bucket all the way forward. The PT bucket with grapple works decent. A lot of people here like the "Wicked" brand grapple.

When you consider the price of the wheel motors, just think when the PT180 sold for $6500, how much of the price was wheel motors?

I use a grapple intended for mini skidsteers on my 1850. Since the 1850 doesn't have a high lift capacity, the mini skidsteer tool is a good match.

Mine is from Titan cost about 750 at the time. Added the qa plate from pt. Gobbles up brush.

I made my own grapple for my 1850 and it is one of my most used implements. Drive into blackberries and give them a yank. A lot of time you find a wad of fencing or a downed tree in the pile. As for the 1850 wheel motor. They are pretty beefy to support the two wheels and a 2 ton machine at 45 degrees sideways. Aldo they ave a built in brake system.

Why they would not have put a skid steer coupler on those is beyond me. They might have sold no attachments, but certanly more machines.

There's several folks that have put SSQA adapters on their PTs.

Personally, I don't want one on my 425. I have no need for the added weight.

Thx MR For clarifying this comment.

When pt first started using a qa plate, patents still covered Bob-tach plate and other proprietary attachment types. These companies finally gave up trying to trap buyers in their platform as competition heated up and cad, plasma & welding technology became much more accessible to small shops and home shops.

Unlike most, pt will sell their attachments w no plate so you can attach your own. Their attachments are less costly than most quality comparables.

I've used dozens of attachments for mini and standard skidsteers from about every major and a lot of minor brands. Dollar for dollar power-trac attachments are the best value imo and for their own machines the best match in weight geometry and applied power.

One thing not many people may realize is that a power trac qa plate fits into the central void of most skidsteer plates meaning the attachment is available to both platforms without any compromise. I have a few implements set up this way and it sure helps when a carrier is not available due to scheduling or downtime to still use the tool on another carrier.

I find it easier to use the PT quick attach (lines up better even if not perfectly on the same plain) and it seems superior to me. I made a PT to SSQA adapter. I initially had a front hoe (mini hoe) Titan brand that I used the adapter with. The hoe pulled itself off the SSQA portion of the adapter multiple times! I cut off the SSQA and installed a PT plate on the hoe and never had a problem to date. If you talk to engineers, they say the SSQA design was never attended for 100+ hp tractors that they are being used on today. I didn't tell him I had problems with 30 hp.
