Rk55HC, Kubota kx040, power-trac 425d, Bobcat L23, Yanmar 401w, bx1880, IHI 30 and Fiori D40 dumpers, Magnatrac mh5000, Dew-eze ATM72LC Slope Mower, Terramite t6 4wd, DR Power brush mower
After a few years w pt attachments that, to me, have stacked up well to other manufacturers while handily beating them on price (looking at you toro), I've converted a few different tool carriers/traction systems to use the PT quick attach setup.

First was a magnatrac mh5000 dozer. It's now remote controlled.
Next came the toro dingo, because forget those bendy qa pins and spendy attachments.

Now, I've got 3 conversions on deck and wanted to share the inputs and results.

Next up: is a Mcelroy tracstar 28...some kind of pipe/conduit fusing tool carrier. Idk what it was just the specs... The unit I scooped up is Rubber tracks and hydraulics ready to drop a Honda gx390 (11-13 hp) on... plenty of power for traction, cylinder based attachments (grapple, minihoe) and stationary pto tasks, I'll give the stump grinder a go,trencher not so much. Brush cutter, nope.

It's getting pt arms and qa, a dedicated limb chipper, 4 gpm chainsaw/polesaw/generator circuit, 50' dual hyd hose reel and a 20' man lift w outriggers. Yep, I'm well insured.

After that (assuming there are survivors) a terramite t5c carcass that will be merged with the running gear and power plant of a ransomes 250 fairway mower to become a 4wd, pt 4 series tool carrier and backhoe.

Finally a lay-mor towable sweeper... What? Yep.

I think of it as repurposeful equipment. I recycle my beer bottles, why not machines?

Awesome!

Please share the conversions as they happen.
Where do you find the carcasses? They are a bit thin on the ground hereabouts.

All the best,

Peter

They come from all over the place... A few ppl with eyes out at scrap yards(whole toro dingo $75=personal record) , golf courses are a great supply of Kubota and hydraulic stuff.

The other day on ebay I got a helac cylinder (Google it hard to explain)... 90$ (usually thousands) now my backhoe is getting a tilting bucket. Huge work saver for me... Couldn't afford it otherwise.

If you learn to read those obnoxious part numbers on hydraulic stuff...there's tons of cheap pressure&flow gizmos in ebay from surplus and liquidators.

Ebay, craigslist... I find abandoned projects or 'don't have time to fix' stuff all the time.

Idk what happened in the hydraulic world but there was a ton of cheap valves and such on Amazon. I Search cross and prince valves on Amazon, every now and then... 32$ proportional valve 66$ 2 spool w float... Never know.

I do a lot of work around DOT projects and in this yard or that I find that the 'girl in the office' is often given a list of stuff to get rid of... Even better I find that person doesn't know what it is... 50 lay-mor sweeper w 33 Kubota hp... Missing only a cheap part.

That's the nice thing about commercial/industrial equipment. It was super expensive new and the quality and design usually reflect that. It's not just consumer stuff made as cheap as possible to be just enough. Also, a lot of stuff is common and generic. Not special to a particular machine. Ritchie always has some back row of weird stuff like that.

Some of the stuff that goes to scrap just makes you want to cry.

I've been to a few Ritchie Bro. Auctions. There can be a whole buncho potpouri there.

You pay mostly in your time, which can be a very long day.

Ugh the Ritchie 10 miles away from me was a merger victim

yeah...not sad tears tho... Put it on my truck! ;-)

Oh, another path I stumbled on is misspellings(never let a programmer use Craigslist) i bought a super nice 'trialer' on CL recently the guy said he just kept marking it down bc nobody called... Hooked that trilaer to the back of the truck and drove home! 16' of aluminum towing joy!

LOL Thanks I needed that.

I get it. Trialer, spelled exactly the way it sounds in them thar hills.

Brilliant idea. There are five, count them 5!, trialers for sale around here in California.

I do all of that already around here and have scored some great little items, but the bigger items that I find are almost always half way to your place or farther. Still, scored a new Lotus welder with a built in 50amp plasma cutter for $450. IGBT and pilot arc included. Makes me look at big chunks of steel very differently now.

I will keep looking. I could use me a 16 aluminium trialer!

Good luck!

All the best,

Peter
