Finally put my Pronovost Puma 54 snowblower to work (rear pto mount to Kubota bx22) this weekend on my long gravel driveway and so far so good. Fairly easy to mount /dismount and throws the snow a good distance.
Some observations:
The skid shoes work well on frozen driveway but tend to gauge if unfrozen, and when this happens gravel gets drawn into the auger even with the skid shoes at the highest position. I'm considering fabing up longer/thicker skid shoes for better glide and increased ground clearance.
Dress for snow! Shifting winds turned me into the abominable snowman and that snow is cold on exposed skin! Chap stick is my friend.
Driving backwards was no big deal for me. I just sit side saddle with my heel on the reverse part of the hst pedal. Manually cranking the chute was not a problem.
Great having the fel on at the same time. Comes in very handy for moving mounds of snow and detail clean-up, especially the one courtesy of the town plow. Also balances the weight of the snowblower.
Rear blade is actually better/faster for smaller amounts of snow, 4" or less. Anything more and my tractor gets pushed around (turf tires no chains).
