Prom Season

Killing me... Wife and daughter were in San Diego a couple months ago for a wedding. Daugher met a kid from Alabama, looks like next week he and his sister will be visiting for a few days. He will take her to the prom here. Dress she wore in the wedding, he's seen, can't be used again, shoes, dito. I need to go to the dump, mow the grass, cut some maple tree saps that are getting big now. I never went to any prom's in HS, did hit a few after prom parties thou. I don't how to house them. Kids just don't have a clue!

Try a logical position -- he saw them and he liked what he saw. Stick with a winner.

Kids are no different... they will push until they find out the wall (limti) doesn't move. We did the same years ago, but the wall was found immovable much earlier in the game, and a much lower cost. Girls wore their best dress, and it wasn't a new one just for prom night.
I can't blame the kids. The enemy are US.

Similar situation: Some years ago I set a limit on how much I'd spend on my daughters wedding. I was just the worst dad. The wedding went off like clockwork and everyone had a good time.

For their 5th anniversery I asked how many of the details she remembered about the wedding day, all she could remember is they had a good time, she couldn't remember a single thing she had to forgo due to my $$ limit.

Ha! My daughter is a penny pincher! :thumbsup: She went out on her own, found a very nice dress on-sale for $45.00 and bought it with her own money. Then she bought some ribbons and had my wife sew straps on it, so that makes her modest, too. I can only hope she makes similar choices down the road.

It poured rain for this year's HS prom and so I hear from our local teachers that the money that was spent on hair doos for the young ladies was pretty well wasted in the short time between getting out of their cars and into the prom.

I went to four proms in high school and one after I graduated...If I could only have the money back from those. Honestly, I didn't understand the importance then, and really don't now

I took my girlfriend to her senior prom back in 1980. She wore a peach colored dress. Very nice! I rented a brown tux with peach cumber-bun and bow tie. Her dad let us borrow his big gold Cadillac and we had a blast. We'll be married 25 years this September. Money well spent. :thumbsup:

Congrats on 25 years!!! I've been married to the girl I took to the last prom for almost 18 years...

Had to study for college finals everytime they turned the lights up at the last one..Had to take the test at 8:00am the following morning....That was fun, after being let out around 6:00am. Glad I don't have to try that now. I think that was around 1989.
