Program install problem....

A friend installed Print Shop on my computer. Now, when starting the computer, it is looking for the disk to complete the installation. I no longer have the disk and he can't find it. I have done a search and deleted all the files that I can find to try to eliminate the program from trying to install, but that hasn't worked. How can I get rid of it completely. Even when I click on cancel, it continues to try to install and is looking for the disk to be inserted. It doesn't show up in the Add / Remove Program List.... thanks..

I have never installed Print Shop, so this is just a guess.... Most installation programs make an entery that can be found in msconfig startup.

Click on Start, Run, type in "msconfig". Click OK. Check the startup tab. Just be careful what you delete. Look for something like Printshopinst. And uncheck it.

The error number is 1706. I also looked in msconfig and couldn't find anything in there that remotely looked like Print Shop. I did find it in the Add / Remove programs, listed under The Print Shop, but couldn't remove it since it isn't finished installing. I also tried change and got the same message.... it needs to finish installing. When starting the machine, I have to cancel the installation at least 6 times to make it go away... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You could also install "HIjack This" which is a free program to remove spyware and adware, and just follow instructions. It will get you a list of everything that trys to open when you boot up, find anything that says Print Shop and delete it. You can also delete any odd spyware and adware while you're at it. Good luck, computers have become both the boon and the bane of our lives...........

If you boot up in the safe mode you may be able to delete it.

Are you using Windows XP? If so, do a Restore from before you tried to install Print Shop.

I tried the restore method and it still wants to install the program even though I have gone back in time. thanks...

Its likely trying to start in one of two places;
First check Start->Programs->Startup
Check to see if there are any programs/applications that are for print shop, right click select delete.
Second is a bit more trickey you need to use the Registry editor
Start->Run->Regedit (then select open)
Then goto the registry key;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
This is where most System Tray applications start from. Look through the list (on the right) and see if any of the listings is whats causing you problems. You can delete the entry (on the right hand side) from here.
