Hope I'm on the correct forum here. I have posted this thread on a different forum. If you read this twice please forgive me. I have owned a 4x4, Case-IH JX65 for several years. I just cut and bay hale with it mostly. Do a bit of snow plowing in the winter. Only have a little over 2000 total hours on the tractor. This winter while plowing snow it started "fluttering" at high rpm (about 2200 rpm). It got worse and would hardly run while pulling a hill. I talked with a case mechanic (nearest one is a day's drive from where I live). He said change the fuel filters. It sounded to him like maybe water in the fuel. I took the drain plug out of the fuel tank one morning and drained several gallons out. Changed the fuel filters and it ran good for a couple of hours then started cutting out and not hardly running. I changed filters again and it's running now, but, under a heavy load, at higher speeds, it started cutting out again. One of the filters is a water/fuel separator with an electric probe. I disconnected the probe and re-inserted the plug that comes with the filter and it seemed to run better, but then started fluttering at high rpms again. I re-inserted the electric probe and it it runs about the same with or without the probe. Can somebody tell me what the probe is for? And does it matter to the engine if it's in the filter or not while the engine is running? Now I'm thinking maybe a lift pump or maybe that probe is bad? So, anybody have any advice or thoughts on what I should check? Thanks for the help. Scotts
