1963 Ford 2000
I had such great help with my solenoid system, especially from souNdguy, I thought I would ask for more help with a hydraulic lift problem. The tractor is a 1963 Ford 2000. The lift was suppose to have been rebuilt several years ago but has never worked right since the repair job. The lift will pick up when I pull the lift lever all the way to the top it comes all the way up. It doesn't even begin to start lifting until I am about one inch from the top of the lift lever. It will hold the all the way up position with ease. In fact, it will hold it in the up position with a load for many hours with the tractor off. The lift only works in the position control (lever up) position. If I change it to draft control(lever down) it will not lift at all. I changed the hydraulic fluid and used the Tractor Supply brand. It did begin to lift a little better when the tractor has been running for 30 minutes or so since the fluid change. However, it still doesn't begin to lift until I get about one inch from the top of the lift control lever. Is there any adjustments that can be made? Thanks

sure.. there are plenty of adjustments... all under the cover!

the top cover gasket and oring kit is about 15$.. plus you will want to repalce the cam follower pin, it may be nearly worn thru.

have your service manual handy, and when you adjust the lift mechanism, since you won't hav ethe nuday tools, refer to the alternate method for adjustment via measurement vs tool. all the tools are are essentially feeler gauges anyway..

Are there any adjustments that can be done without taking the cover off of the lift? The lady on Steiner tractor video said that you could adjust the lift position by loosening the four bolts on the lift adjust lever and move it forward or backwards and adjust the lift height. I haven't been able to get the lift adjustment lever to move where it fastens to the tractor. What repair/service manual do I need for this 1963 Ford 2000 gas tractor? Can any additional type hydraulic fluid be added to thin the fluid to make it work better?

so.. how did trying to move that 4 bolt quadrant work for ya?

Fo-20 service manual will cover the 4 cyl thousand series.

what oil do you have in the hyds that you need to thin it?

As you most likely already know the moving the four bolts lift height lever did not work at all. The lady that does the videos for Steiner Tractor said that it would work on the 2000 just like it worked on the 8N and 9N. She was wrong because it won't move. I have new hyds fluid from Tractor Supply that it says work with all tractor hyds.
hanks again,
