i bought this second hand, it was still new in the box i think, after welding for only 30 minutes, the breaker in my garage tripped(30 amp) i flipped the breaker back on and since i can hear the fan running, but nothing happens when i pull the trigger, i've taken it off and even tried a second trigger, but to no avail, i know nothing about these things, i've tried the soft reset on the back and that didn't help, any suggestions?
thanks..jp

Not sure this will help but my lincoln sp140 did something similiar. I was welding some pretty heavy material and it quit. Didn't blow circuit breaker but shutdown the welder. After the welder reset itself it wouldn't feed any wire. Talked to some dealers and they said that was a problem with these welders and that most likely the drive motor had gone out. Was ready to put some serious cash down on a heavier machine but desided to try the welder again (a day later) worked fine and hasn't quit on me since. Still wish I had gone ahead and bought that heavier welder but I probably would have been single by now:)

Good luck.

There's a thermal circuit breaker in these, well at least in my Weld Pak 100. Let it cool twenty minutes or so and she'll likely fire back up.

Pay attention to stickout on these, if the tip is constantly dragging the puddle I think it can try to draw too much current and make the breaker trip. Also try to avoid using long extension cords, if you must use an extension cord make sure its 12 gauge or heavier. And needless to say, don't have any other equipment on that breaker, not even a light...you need evey amp you can get.

I also try to plan my work so I weld some, then take a break to clean or lay out stuff, the duty cycle on these things is pretty light.

Also you can unplug the 2 small trigger wires that come from your gun and plug into the machine. Put a Jumper wire where you unpluged them on the welder. That will start your drive motor. If that doesnt work, You probably have a bad Thermal protection on the drive. Those little Lincolns used 2 Thermals. 1 for the Transformer, rectifier and one for the drive motor. The drive motor one was weak. Good luck..

I agree with yomax4. If you can start the drive motor by a jumper wire across the start terminals, then you have a bad set of wires to the trigger.

Sounds as if the drive motor is having issues, I agree with yomax as well.

How much tension do you have on the wire spool? You probably already know this, but it only needs enough to keep the wire from bird-nesting. Any more puts extra load on the drive motor, and it will overheat. You probably have a 20% duty cycle, so welding for 30 minutes would be pushing the envelope, depending on how much weld time you actually had in that 30 minute period. In 30 minutes, total arc time should be no more than 6 minutes for a 20% duty cycle. Mine has never tripped the thermal protection, but I don't normally weld continuously for any long period of time (Miller 180).

That's a 120 volt welder, am I right? If it blew a 30 amp breaker there's more to this than meets the eye, it shouldn't be able to even get close to drawing 30 amps.

The drive motor may have shorted itself out, which might be enough to blow the breaker, I'm not sure.

Very old Post. I know. But my friends Lincoln seems to have a VERY short cycle time as well before it stops. Like 1 second. I can weld all day with my little Miller so when I tried to help him out the other day I felt lie a Dunce. could not even come close to running a bead without it stopping on me. If I open it up, will it be obvious where the thermal protection for the Drive Motor is?

HERE'S MY FINDINGS
Just got to looking at the Welder. Here's what I found. Yes, the Drive motor would thermally shutdown even if I holding the trigger and not welding. Ends up that there thermo sensor is not too sensitive, it ends up that the two pointed nodes on ether side of the Drive wheel were gummed up. A simple loosening of a screw to get them out. Cleaned them with Brake Cleaner and a paper clip and it took all the restrictions out. When trying to pull the Wire out of the Gun it too was tough to get out. Added some mineral spirits to that ( figured Brake cleaner was too aggressive) and it helped a lot. Working good now.
