Hello All,

I have been looking for a mid-sized JD CUT for a while now and have been wondering why the 955 series tractors I am seeing are priced more that a new 3X20 series. Can anyone explain why the 955's are selling for such a premium price?

Thanks,
Jim

Maybe it's the market rewarding a good in-demand product.

I agree. I see some of those tractors sell for more than I would be willing to pay. They are a good tractor but the newer models are just as reliable and have additional features. The loaders on the newer tractors are better (quick attach, higher capacity buckets) and will lift more.

I've heard it said that the 955 is the "Cadillac" of CUTs. As the owner of one with 315 hours on it, I wouldn't call it a cadillac. It's much more capable than its 33 HP would indicate, but it does have some issues. Like the poorly engineered battery placement that rots out the $450 grille, and the inavailability of the odd sized tires.
Getting back to your question, I don't really know why the prices remain so high for the 955, other than maybe it's just popular but not necessarily a better machine?

My buddy has a 955 and while its a nice tractor he has now had the dealer out to service it 3 times in 4 years. He only has 300 hours on it. Two times was for pto issues. Its a nice tractor but 4 of us bought tractors at the same time +- 4 months. I got a Jinma 254/284, one got a TV33 New Holland, and the other a Case DX 29 and we have not had a single mechanical issue other than my starter going out.

As someone who "lusted" over a 855 or 955 for several years here is my take. I have a few acres to mow & a fairly long drive to plow in the winter & it snows quite a bit here. That series of Deere tractors was spec'd perfectly for what I wanted. High HP, relatively low weight (easier on the lawn) in relation for power & a wide stance as our property has enough slope to make your bung hole pucker on occasion. However, I'm a fiscal conservative above all else. I couldn't justify the premium those models were bringing in relation to new tractors.

I unded up with a MF SCUT. I really wish someone would come out with a tractor that mirrors the XX55 series, I'd trade in a heartbeat

I do not see why anyone would want a light tractor? I have used both and can tell you a 5,000# 28HP tractor will out work a 2,500# 28HP tractor any day of the week. As far a the lawn mowing goes just don't go in when its wet. I have added over 1,000# to my tractor and see less lawn destruction due to less wheel spin when doing loader work or pulling something.

I wouldn't want a 2500 pound tractor any more than I want a 5K pound tractor. That is for my particular situation. When I was tactor shopping I was committed to MF. The jump from my little one to the next size anyone stocked (1528) was half a ton heavier. I didn't want to go there. The 55 series Deeres would have hit my particular sweet spot
