I am new to all of this tractor business. I have bought 160 acres of mixed pasture and woods in pretty hilly terrain and need a tractor for bush-hogging and general work. Will need to plant some food plots. A friend of an Uncle is selling his M9000 Kubota with a loader to buy something bigger. It may be overkill for what I need but I am considering it. It is 4WD, has a cab, a loader, rear wheel weights and 3 sets of hydralics on the rear(for what reason I don't know) It has just under 300 hours on it and is a 2000 or 2001 model. What would be a fair price?? He is asking 31K for it. I haven't seen it but my uncle says it looks almost new with a little dirt! Any suggestions, ideas and help would be appreciated.

Welcome to TBN.

That tractor probably cost him about $40K, so $31K sounds like a fair price.

When you say 3 sets of hydraulics in the rear, do you mean the levers are in the rear?

If the levers are in the cab, but running to the rear, then a good use for them would be a flex-wing rotary cutter. Center for raising and lowering the entire deck, and the right and left levers for raising each wing.

You may want to fill out your profile so we can see what area of the country you are. It helps many times with the type of advice you will receive.

You should seriously consider this tractor. Under 300 hours is almost new. Gatorboy is correct, as usual, that tractor was about 40K new so I think that it would be a good deal. I bought my M9000DTL (open station low profile) last year and really like it. I love the power it has. I use it inside barns so I can’t have the cab or don’t have a loader although I would really like one. I just can’t justify the loader while I have my skid steer which is a great loader. My dealer wants $5700 for a loader if you’re curious. Before I got my M9000 I was using my friends M8200 cab tractor with loader. It was so quiet and smooth. Inside the cab you can barely tell the tractors running at idle. The only problem he has ever had on his with over 500 hrs on it was with the AC. He had to have several parts replaced under warranty. From reading other post about the Kubota’s with cabs this may be a weaker link so make sure that works good.

This type of tractor is not intended for lawn maintenance. It will do serious work while sitting in comfort. One thing about a big tractor is that the big implements are big money. If you have the budget and need I would highly recommend getting it. I saw lots of these tractors haying the fields last fall.

The New Holland TN series are also nice as well as the JD 5200 and 6400 series. While I think that deal on the M9000 is great I would always look at the competition before spending that sort of money and make sure your getting the best deal.

I attached a picture of my tractor.

There are apparently 3 pairs of hydralic outlets on the rear of the tractor near the 3 point hitch. The current owner of the tractor said he just put on the third pair and it cost him $1000.
Thanks for your help so far.

Stonman:

I agree with Gatorboy and 40 Chicks. It's a good buy. I think that year came with a self leveling loader just like the current models.

As far as the air conditioning, Seems like Kubota does have a problem and I fixed mine on my 5030 HSTC. If you look at my posted threads you will see the fix. Maybe 40 Chicks or Gatorboy can post the link. I am not too computer literate.

I believe the M5-9's come with 1 pair of remotes standard. Second and third sets are optional. Kubota remotes are stackable. I'd say 1K for a third set is with labor included. I'd have opted for an electric splitter over the factory lever setup for the third set. I run 2 sets on my 5030.

Remember, these tractors aren't CUT's. They are full size units. You will still have to have a lawnmower or a few sheep.

I agree with Gatorboy, that's a heckofa deal. I bought an M6800 earlier this year with open-station and LA1162 FEL for around 28,600. At 31K and only 300 hours, jump on it!

Just don't expect to use it like a lot of people with the little B series and Grand-L's do for yard maintainance. The M's are a little large for that. But for field work, they are great.

I just turned a new garden patch this weekend and my tractor pulled a 3 bottom plow like it wasn't even there... could have easily pulled a 5 bottom. Also ran a 10 ft tandem trailer disk and 12 ft spring tine harrow.

If you plan on running in the woods much a large cab tractor might be a little tight though.

Larry that sounds like quite a garden if you’re using plows and disks to work it. I’m glad you’re enjoying your M.

Eric,
Yup! It's a doozy. I didn't get out the tape to measure the final dimensions, but I had staked out about 60x160 so I figure the final size (given a little maneuvering room around the stakes) around 8000-9000 sq ft. That doesn't count the area that I have yet to work up for potato and pumpkin patches. I've got over 2 pounds of pumpkin seed and 100# of seed potatoes to put in. Good thing the M6800 gets the work done so fast, I've got a lot of work to do on that old house this summer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
