JD 4300 w/ FEL
I know price changes depending on where you are from, but I wanted to know generally where to start out with my offer.
Here is what I have:

2001 John Deere 4300 HSD w/FEL 4X4
approx. 200 hours.
Kept inside approx 90% of the time
Good shape

Had an issue last year where someone drove it over a banking, had to be pulled back up with a wrecker, wouldn't start, JD dealer came and fixed it and said they went over the rest of it. Cost several hundred to fix.
Thanks for any help!

Know what I'd do? I'd put it on ebay for .99 cents.. set a high reserve let it auction for one week, and see what your highest offer is... if you are happy with that offer let the highest guy buy it... I would guess between 17500 and 19000... remember you can always come down if you start high, but you can't go high if you set too low.... so let it run on ebay... protect yourself with a reserve... then if need too, let it run again for a little more than your last highest offer... Most important, take lots of good pictures... and be very descriptive of your tractor.... tell everything there is to know about it..... you'll get results... I did on selling mine last week.

Hey Jason. I messed up pretty badly with my wording on my question. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
I meant to say I want to buy that tractor from a friend. I didn't know what to make for an offer. I did get some info from your post even though I messed up my question. hahaha. I'll engage my brain before writing next time.
What do you think I should offer for this tractor?
Thanks!!

If you're buying, start low and see what he says. In this case it's easier to raise your offer than lower it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

What is he asking for it ? Let him give you a price. When you make an offer it makes you both a seller and a buyer, I think you just want to be a buyer. Let him determine the price, it is his tractor. Then if you think his price is too high make a counteroffer, hopefully you will come to some compromise on the price.

I wouldn't pay more than 15,000. I would offer 14,000. I have a 4300 x with 430 loader and itis a nice unit. I will sell it in a heartbeat to anyone wanting to pay 17000 to 19000 and buy a newer machine.

Doing business with a friend can be tricky, make an offer to low and you could insult him/her as the case may be. If you really want to do business with them, let them make the offer and take it from there. But tread lightly, from experience I lost a good friend doing business with him.

Called a dealer today and they said the same thing you say Sticky.
I will definately have to keep that in mind. Never thought about it being an insult, but you are right.
They called today and offered it to me for 16,500. That comes with tiller, bush hog, york rake and post hole digger.
I think it is a good package with everything.

That's a touchy one -- dealing with a friend. Gotta figure that you're not gonna get a steal... And if he's a close friend; if he showed up on your doorstep with a real problem; you'd probably give him a $1,000 and a hug!!!
When I was looking for a tractor package, I lurked on Ebay for 6-8 months. My wife used to throw cold water on me at night to get me to come to bed! This package --- break it down.
FEL - $2,500
Tiller - 5ft - $850-1,000
Bush-hog - 5ft - $1,000
York rake -5ft - $400-600
Posthole digger - $400-500
You're getting $5,000 worth of attachments with the tractor. That makes the tractor - $11.5k
Doesn't look like too bad a deal to me --- especially looking at it from an Alaska price differential. I suppose it would be a different story if you were in Georgia. Next door to the factory.
Good luck with whatever you decide. AKfish
