On my way into work this morning, somebody had a used 770 out for sale. It has 140 hours on it, and what looks like an Alamo 60" tiller. The poster on it wasn't clear whether the tiller was included or not, but they are asking $10,500 for the thing. Is this a reasonable price? It didn't look like anything was leaking or abused, but the faded paint looked like it was probably stored outside.

Jim,

It is 4WD, I didn't notice the DSCV (what's that?), and it has a tires with a lot of tread (didn't look like they'd been used much).

The DSCV. is the valve assembly for use with a front end loader and other attachments . Its a joy stick that is on the right hand side of the tractor when your sitting on it and its about 18" tall and has a couple of bends in it. its a $600.00+ option thats a must if you ever want to add a loader.

Stopped by and looked at it on the way into work this morning. There are a couple of "long handled" controls on the right side of the tractor. One is near the bottom-right-front of the seat, and the other is right above the brake pedals. The one above the brake pedals has a red knob, the one by the seat has a black knob. There are quick disconnects on the left side in front of the floorboard, so I presume that's where the DSCV control leads to.

Called the guy to get more information. It's been used on a small (2.5 acre) vinyard for 3 years. They added a couple more acres on steeper terain, and needed a crawler to negotiate it. The Alamo implement that I "thought" was a tiller is actually a flail mower. They are also dropping the price to $8,000 complete with the flail mower (but no FEL or anything else). It is plumbed for a FEL, and has the joystick. Also has a full set of front weights.

That sounds like a really good deal to me . The replacement tractor of that model is the 790. It has a few upgrades most of which is a few more horse power. It sells for 10,995 in 4wd and you would have to give another $650.00 for the DSCV and another $150.00 for the plumbing for the out let assy. for the front end loader. I think its $75.00 per front weight. Any way it starts adding up quick. GOOD LUCK!

Hi John,
Thanks alot for that price!!! I never did get a deal done with them on that lease. They best deal they would give me was $32,500 which wasn't even close. Oh well I'll just keep the massey and my old baler. With the way farm prices are falling equipment around here is selling super cheap. I hate to see that. I hope that it picks up somewhat but I'm not sure if it will. Most guys around here are just farming for the govt. checks right now.

Is that correct? The poster this guy had mounted on the tractor says it has 29PTO HP. Which is correct?

I noticed a ragged old riding lawnmower, not even a garden tractor, at a dealer's place awhile back and it had beautiful, shiny, official looking decals on both sides that said "Detroit Series 60 Diesel."/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Well, I wouldn't say that I'm "happy", but I do have another negotiating point now, don't I?

I'm not sure about that price. You may try renting one first to see at rentmaker.com. I'm not sure if you can get Deeres but it's worth a shot.

My little old used tractor price guide ("2001 Intertec") says:

1997 JD 770 has 24 PTO HP...

Plus pricing of:

Fair - 10050
Good - 11100
Premium - 11660

This is a pretty new book (to me) and I'm not sure how accurate it is?!?!

Good Luck!

Bill
