Something in the thread about decompression lever got me wondering. If I turn my key counter clockwise my idiot lights come on on my 1700 and I think I remember seeing somewhere that this is for preheating the glow plugs but I can't find it again. Am I right? And if so, how do I know it is working?

My Kubota has glow plugs. When you turn on the key several annunciator lights come on including the glow plug light. All lights go out within one second except...the glow plug light. It stays lit for about 2 more seconds then it goes out indicating that the engine is ready to start. The seller told me that even on a 30 degree day the plug light only stays on for about 3 seconds. Hasn't gotten cold yet.....

The operators manual that came with my FX20D agrees with that. That's how to preheat the plug on a cold day. It will stay on for up to 10 seconds assuming you hold the key to the left the whole time.

This is what I did to check and see if mine was working. You should have a White cup to hold the fuel. Which is missing on my tractor I never need the Thermal start on mine in Ga. And ws just checking to see that it did work.
Put some Diesel in the cup. Turn and hold your key backward. The heat from the igniter will let the fuel pass a check ball and get to it and burn creating heat. I wouldn't hold the key back for more than 10sec. at a time to keep from burning it up. You may need to do it couple of times to get diesel to it. Also you can take the air cleaner lid off and see if it's getting hot. the power wire to it is just behind the tube you can't see in the pic. I just run a Jumper wire from my battery Pos. to it for a few Sec.
