Cub Gt2186
Recently my 2005 GT 2186 loses power when the mower deck is engaged. It began after some bale twin got wrapped around one of the blade shafts. I cleared the shaft but the problem persisted, even after lubricating the deck at all zerts.

I removed the blade and covers, cleaned down to the bearings and lubed some more. The blades seem to turn easily by hand. Put on new blades while I was at it.

I checked the hydraulic fluid. It is clear. It comes to the mid point between fill and full when cold. However, when in use it contains small air bubbles.
I have 100 hours on the fluid.

The tractor slows significantly when climbing even a lower incline - lest than 5% - but runs well on the down hill with the mower running faster too.

What is the problem? What is the solution? Thank you in advance.

1.may need to purge yer tranny to take out air - see the manual.

2. if engine is twin cylinder, may not be firing on both. (twin engines can start/run on one cylinder, but little power)

Thanks RCBE. I'll check out the sparks this weekend. I had not considered that factor, but it would explain the performance symptoms. gg1:thumbsup:

RCBE, you were exactly correct. Thank you!! The engine was working on one cylinder. I took it to the dealer and for $350+ he put it back in working order. While it runs well, now, I am not happy about the cost. Labor was 70% of the bill. He told me that it was necessary to remove the engine to get at the coils. The design engineers should be punished.

I have proposed on various forums that there be an Average Handy Consumer Service Certification test which all such devices must pass. Each member of the engineering and design teams must effect certain repairs on the machine which any handy homeowner should be able to complete. The repair test would take place in mid-summer in the lowest and hottest part of Death Valley, CA using the tools common to the average handy consumer. One BP&J Sandwich and one pint of water would be issued along with one set of the appropriate parts. The test subject would then have to drive the tractor - in this example - to a predetermined destination as proof of the repair's quality. If the subject makes it out, then the design is approved. If not, after attending the funeral(s), a new design team reworks the design knowing that it will have to past the AHCSC test. gg1

That may be one of the top ten ideas I've ever heard!

My brother proposes this: The third Saturday of each month shall be designated No Traffic Law Enforcement Day. All smart, safety minded people should stay home. All teenage boys, drunk drivers, little old lady's who can't see over the steering wheel, etc., get free roads to do with as they please. No tickets. No Arrests. No consequences. It shouldn't take long for all the idiots to kill themselves off, leaving the streets safer for the rest of us the other 29 days of the month.

Your mechanic wasn't pulling your chain. I jus put a new ignition coil in my 1986 cc 1812. Had to pull the motor to take shroud off the engine. Total pain in the *****. 115 bucks for the part. 6 hours of my time to put it in. Next time I may pay the 350 to have someone else do it!

Had to pull an engine on a cub back in may to do a carb rebuild. To get to the carb mounting bolts you have to pull the intake manifold. To get to the manifold have to pull blower housing.
