I have a Mitsu D1850 that I use to work a garden with.

When I get my cultivator( which is a Dearborn 2 row spring shank cut down and made into a one row) all set with power lift and toplink for depth, I can go down one row and make it about half way or so on the next and all of a sudden the plows will just sink and lug the tractor down. I can raise the cultivator and drop it back down go and on to the end and do the next row and maybe have to raise and lower a couple of times to make it to the end of the row or maybe not have to cycle it at all. It seems as though the lift looses power to maintain position and drops all the way down or at least enough to make the plows to want to go to China.

I used the tractor last year to garden with starting from scratch breaking, disking, harrowing, cultivating with no problems. This year it has been a whole different story, aggravating to say the least.

I don't have any manuals of any sorts so don't know about the inner workings. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Until I can make a permanent repair I have been using short chains attached to the lift arms and the bottom holes below the toplink to limit travel distance. Works good but would like to repair the lift.

Thanks for any ideas.

Hello,
I'm not a mechanic and haven't done any major repairs.
But I do have a D1850FD so maybe I can help.

If you are low on hydraulic fluid while bouncing around air may get into the lift.

Shutting the flow control completely off once you get your depth set should help.

But low fluid can cause pump damage.

The only manuals for these greymodels were in Japanese and I don't think any have been translated.

Little tidbits of info is outthere if searched for.

Goodluck

Thanks PGB. Haven't had time to tear into tractor yet. I'll have to wait for cooler temps.

The fluid level is up where it is supposed to be and the screen was cleaned and only has 3 or 4 hrs. on it. Garden and yard is fairly flat and level, no bumps and cultivating at this stage of the game is slow going, very slow.

As for the manuals, I would probably only need them just for specs. and nomenclature so I would know the proper names for any repair parts that I would be looking for.

Still searching and thanks again

you may have to tear down the lift section and clean out the poppet valve
#1. check all seals,

Thanks Mit. I was hoping you would chime in cause the advice you gave me last year
concerning the elect. charging system was a big help and I appreciated that very much.

I don't know for surer but cleaning that valve doesn't appear to be much of a major job.
Figure I won't have to wait for cooler temps. My shop is in the shade of a couple large maples;
surer enough a shade tree mechanic.

Thanks again
David

the valve itself is difficult to open. you have to hold the big nuts in a vice and turn the body with a wrench. the nuts are so thin that you would get a good hold with a wrench. while servicing the valve it may be a good idea to check the lift piston and seals. usually dirt in the valve causes it to malfunction.so watch out for falling leaves going into your hydraulic resovour while you under them trees.

Hi Mit,

Thanks for the prints. With these and your tips I'm looking forward to getting started
on the work (hopefully ending in repair). Won't be able to get started for another few days.
Too many irons in the fire right now. I do think I'll get
this started and finished before the maple leaves begin to fall.
Those two trees must have a blue million leaves, nice shade but a PITA come
clean up time.

The heads up about using the vise on the thin nuts is a great idea.

Your help is very much appreciated
David

P.S.
I'll be sure to let you know how it all goes when finished.
