I have a Poulan Pro 25 hp, 48" cut riding mower and am trying to find a shop service manual for the tractor. I'm specificly looking for service info on the hydrostatic drive system. Any ideas where to find that? I have the owners manual and the Briggs & Stratton engine parts manual. Cooter

Your Poulan and my new 24 HP Craftsman are both made by Husqvarna. Mine has a TUFFTORQ K46 BT transaxle. If you could find the model number of yours, you might get somewhere by Googling "TUFFTORQ" and the model number. It is my understanding that almost all of the lower-priced hydrostatic lawn tractors use TUFFTORQ transaxles, but there are several models.

Thanks very much for the info Dennis. I did Google "Tufftorq k46" and found the oil change procedure (with pictures!) and that unit looked the same. As I suspected there is no oil drain plug. An oil change involves removal and disassembly of the unit. There are magnets inside which is a good thing. As my machine has about 430 hours. I think I'll leave it as is. It is operating fine but as a second owner I was thinking of preventative maintenance. Better to let sleeping dogs lie !! thanks again, and "green' is good !!

Since my previous response, I discovered the following thread in the Parts and Repairs section of TBN.
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/parts-repairs/164892-tufftorq-k46-repair-guide-pictures.html

I didn't read the whole thing, but it looks like there's a lot of good information for anyone contemplating maintenance or a rebuild of a TuffTorq transaxle. I got the impression that a rebuild is not for the faint of heart, but I think I could do it, rather than spend a thousand dollars on a replacement. I hope I don't need to do that on my Craftsman for a very long time.

Well upon a closer look at the transaxle, I found that it is a Hydro-Gear unit #184070 336-0510. I did locate the parts manual for it but not a service manual yet. As I mentioned ,there are no troubles with it and I'm not going to disturb the unit now. But I will continue the search for a manual for future reference. Hopefully mine won't need service for some time. Thanks for the reply

Thanks 6string, That site does not go back to the older Model#'s. It can't find my model ! Even so, it does not appear to supply a service manual for the Hydro Gard transaxles. I'll keep searching and post if I come up with something. Cooter
