The above picture is where my drive meets our road. It is hard to get a good pic of what is really happening here. Every delivery truck seems to find it as they cut the corner to zoom up the drive. Everything to left of the shiny stream of water is my driveway apron, to the right the road. It's all sloped down to the road and the road slopes down pretty good too.

The question would be what to fill the hole with? It is ~ 4" deep at most. I guess in a perfect world hot patch, but short of that what would hold , stay in place? I've never tried the bagged blacktop stuff, but it seems not enough somehow. Concrete? Thanks for the tips.

Concrete won't work as it will break up.
There are bagged cold mixes avalible for small jobs like yours.
Square the edges off as this helps with retention. A tapered edge provides a weak piont for cracking to start.

Some way or another you must channel the surface water away from your road. Road side ditching - crowing the road - drainage pipes...........

Any patching of that "hole" will only be a temporary repair - until the next rain storm.

Asphalt cold patch and a tamper. Best case it holds. Worst case you’re only out 20 bucks.

I would cold patch it,
then put up a corner marker.
And, make the corner marker one they won't want to drive over.
A big rock or even make it a heck of a speed bump with more cold patch and paint it orange.

Yep. I lined the driveway apron with rocks that no one is going to want to hit. More rocks on the inside of a sharp turn that the delivery trucks used to cut every time.

Need better picture.
The current picture seems to show water damage from the driveway not being properly maintained.

We've had some heavy rains over the last week. The blacktop part of my drive extends up maybe 10 feet, then it is gravel. Sloped gravel at that. It's a 300' run to the top and it's been 2 months since I cleaned up the drive. It's stuff like this that makes me consider paving the whole works. But for now, back to the hole. Squaring off the edge seems like a good idea to me. Would it make a mess of a concrete saw? I've never tried the cold patch. Is there a way to make it better- like also use a penetrating asphalt sealer as it gets packed in? I'm assuming this project would be best for a hot dry stretch of weather which is fine with me.

Yep. Cold patch works well if there is a good firm base. A heavy flat tamper is useful to compact it.

Also it helps to do it in the summer when it's hot as it flows and sticks together a lot better.

Or you can put a big rock there that the drivers will have to go around.
