I actually found a picture postcard of the little town we live a few miles from. Not very exciting, just a picture of the old school. The town was an oil-boom town and grew quite large. Being hastily built out of wood, the businesses downtown burnt down. The town never recovered and became another sleepy village. I also found four other cards of the small incorporated towns in my county, Crawford County . Again not very exciting but a lot of history. Lewis and Clark treked through here. Oldest county in Illinois, Cook County (Chicago) used to be part of Crawford County. The site of a massacre of settlers by Indians. A big pearl and mother of pearl industry on the Wabash River, some of the pearls are in the Queen of Englands collection. James Jones (author of "From Here to Eternity") was born and raised here. Burl Ives was born and raised about 25 miles from here in Jasper County. This was the home of Heath Candy, makers of the Heath Toffee Bar. Hershey Chocolate bought them out and now has a very large Chocolate candy plant here.
