Post Hole Drill mounting/storing

Ok, I have this post hole drill and it is one pain to mount and store. Can anyone comment on how they store this thing so it's not just lying on the ground. I had it kind of tripoded up but it fell over. Was thinking of making some kind of a stand for it. Anyone have any ideas to share on how you store and mount yours?

Do a search here- there are quite a few threads on this very issue. There are many ideas- some simple, some complex. I currently lift mine with a chain hoist and then strap it to the wall between to screw eyes on either side of the gear case. Before I had the barn I built a 4X4 stand outside and hung it from that.

I have a chain hoist with a 10' steel pipe through the top hook. The pipe sits on top of my garage trusses, near the wall, and will roll towards and away from the wall. I hoist the main section (minus the U-bar), rotate 90 degrees, roll the gantry to the wall. The main casing of the PHD (that's post hole digger, not post hole drill-and the digging part is an auger with tip, not a drill bit) has two large threaded holes into which I placed eye bolts. I put two eye lags into the log wall of the garage, such that the eyes on the casing fit just inside the eye lags. I run a big hitch pin through the 4 eyes and use a padlock in place of the clip pin. The tip fits into a chiseled out 4" x 4" X 12" block. The U-bar gets attached to the wall similarly with eye lags, hitch pin, and padlock.

Drill the booger into the ground.. foot or so... then unhook it... mine doesn't fall over... I guess in sand it might... drill deeper ??

I put a railroad tie in the ground then lag bolted a 2X4 in a T formation. I back up to the railroad tie and chain the post hole digger to the tie, then unhook it from the tractor and then spin the long neck piece and the PTO shaft and chain them to the 2X4. I put another 2X4 from the ground to under the end of the T 2X4 for extra support. It is very easy to unhook and hook back up and very inexpensive setup.

I agree with Larry, hang it from a tree limb. That's how we and most of the other farmers did it where I grew up.
