Post Hole Digger on a 186D

I am developing a property 400 miles away. Using my 186D there. About ready to put in 11 posts and hesitant about the 186 doing it. It is a standard County Line PHD.

PHDs, I feel are the most dangerous attachment. I am leery when using it on my larger Mahindra 1526. But I can always trailer the 1526 there.

Was wondering if anyone has used a PHD on a 186 or similar size tractor and what size auger?

I put my first fence in with a similar size tractor, Kubota B8200. It doesn't take a whole lot of HP to auger a hole. As long as the auger mounts and clears the ground you'll be fine.
My ssqa loader mounted auger runs off the hydraulics at an equivalent of about 15hp.

Your YM186D is an SCUT. Best to use a SCUT sized PHD.

You are 100% correct, a PHD is one of the most dangerous attachments to use on a tractor.
Not so much with a skidsteer on the front, but so darn pricey.

Yet, the two person handheld PHD is by far worse than using a tractor.

If you are dropping in 4-inch posts, and the soil is firm, then the 6-inch auger is fine. If your holes fill in some, then the 9-inch auger works fine. But, you would need to go back and fill in with a shovel a few scoops each and pack. Maybe a helper task?

Since owning my YM2610, I made just over a few thousand post holes. Some holes the auger would grab onto something down in the soil and the tractor front end would pop right up. I was FAST on the clutch! ! ! And I do have front weights.

I have sold the 3-point PHD this past summer. It was a great tool. And yes, for a Gray Market Yanmar, the PTO OVERRUN CLUTCH is a must have for this tool !

Thanks @bmaverick I hadn’t considered the Torque. Though I think the 186 bucket is heavier than the 1526 bucket.
After your answer, I am going to bring the 1526 up to do these holes. Not knowing the soil at depths, the smoothness of the 1526 3pt, 4 of the posts are for 6x6s, all add up to the 1526.
