I have decided to get a post hole digger. A Leinbach Post Hole Digger is what I'd like. Does anyone have one of these on a 2710? If so, what model? Any complaints? Other types?

Thanks,

greg

Greg...looks like not many B2710 owners have PHD's!
I have both...what a great machine. I bought the
digger when I purchased the 2710 last year, but
just recently started using it, with about 50 holes
down, and way too many to go.
I have a Rankin PHD, mfg'd by Shaver, model 601,
with a 9 inch auger. I am quite happy with it,
seems to be built to withstand anything the tractor
can ask it to do. I would suggest that you get the
heaviest duty model the 2710 can handle, as it
seems to me the process of digging holes is stressful
on the implement. But not as stressful as it would be
on my body if I were to dig these holes by hand.......
Good luck..... PR

I've got a 2710 and my dad & I swap out some attachments. We've got a Landspride PD15 w/ a 12" auger. I've sunk about 20 holes so far and would not be without it again!! I've thought about buyin an 8" auger so the holes won't be quite so large when setting a 4X4 post; although the larger hole works out well if I end up miss-measureing (dig twice, measure once??).

I'm sure you will be pleased with any of the name brand phd's out there.

take care,

Hi Greg,

I don't have either of the units you've mentioned, but I'll give you my scenario. I have a B2910 and a Woods 1160 with a 12" auger. Compared to digging by hand or even using a power handheld auger, the tractor mounted unit is a breeze. The only problem I had was when I hit a rock that was about 12" in diameter. I had to dig that one out by hand. Then I finished the hole with the tractor. The tractor was barely above an idle speed when digging. It didn't need any more than that. Just remember to keep raising the auger to clean out the hole so the bit doesn't screw itself into the ground.

Good Luck,

~Rick

I have a 2710 and a PHD, but the PHD is some offbrand (Servo?) that Tractor Supply sells. I've drilled maybe 50 holes and it has worked fine. My only problem is finding a place to store it. Right now it is laying on the ground, and looks like rust is starting to set in on the auger.

The 2710 handles the PHD with ease in our heavy clay. Don't know what would happen with rocks, as I haven't hit any.
