question is if i ever use a loan to buy the tractor would i be able to get it paid off in couple years or less? also i only have a reg cab pickup v6 looks like i might need a duramax chevy or something.

I think that question would have to be answered with an Einstein equation.

Too much to be considered to honestly answer.

Good luck with your endeavors.

If I had grass allergies, I would not consider custom mowing. No matter how good a outfit you have, you are going to find yourself out of the cab checking on the cutter, tractor or what the big pile of stuff is in the middle of the field. Ken Sweet

If you decide to pursue this endeavor, get a old farmer to go with you, when you go tractor shopping. Ken Sweet

ok thanks a lot for the tips i appreciate that. another thing is the loan option im not sure if im eligilbe to get my own loan and i do not have credit card.and since the financial overhaul has taken place that may make it harder to pursue.

I'm with Ken Sweet on this...if I was allergic to grass clippings, I surely would not want a job mowing grass!!!

You need to do a few important things before...repeat, before you buy any equipment:
Is there a market? If so, is it saturated with other persons doing that same work?
Do you have the funds for start up costs? Meaning, insurance, equipment, transportation.
You really need to use spell check...and proper punctuation. Right off the bat, I'd turn away a supplier of services who cannot use proper and correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.

I am with Roy and Ken on this one. Before you do anything put together a business plan. What's the going rate for mowing in your area. Do you plan to mow vacant city lots, 5 acre pastures or larger tracts? What will your operating costs be? Could you mow ROW's for pipelines? If so what type of insurance would you be required to carry and at what cost? Sounds to me like you would need a truck, trailer, tractor and mower at the bear minimum. That's quite a bit of capital up front. Then you should have a kitty for unforseen maintenance problems. Project your revenues and expenses at various utilization rates and prove to yourself that this would be good deal before you go any further and for sure before you go see your banker.

Then there is the selling side of the business - are you a selling kind of guy? can you hustle up the work?

This is also seasonal work - April thru October. Those tractor notes are due every month. Beware. Borrowing and buying is pretty easy. The difficulty is comes in paying back the loans.

Go drive somebody's tractor and see if you can live with the allergies.

There's a lot of homework you need to do before you buy a tractor and order a box of gimme baseball caps.
