I have a garden of poppies that is about 50 years old. They bloom well every spring with nice flowers but it is slowly thinning out and progressivly being taken over by weeds every year. Now that the poppies are finished they have dropped their seeds, I have weed wacked it (as i do every year) because it was mostly weeds/grass. My question is what can I do to make it better next year??? If it wasn't for the weeds the poppies would do better as they wouldn't be competing with anything else. I've tried mulch in the fall and it helped but the weeds were just slowed down and came back. Could i spray roundup now to kill the weeds without damaging the dormant poppy seeds? Any advice? thanks
