Poor FEL operation on 4100

In this case, the FEL joystick will not allow me to do only one movement with the FEL such as curling up or rotating down without the FEL bucket arms moving up or down. It wants to do 2 movements at once and I cannot control the joystick to do it. My guess is the SCV is out of wack in some way but not sure how. I need to do the 500 hour service of the hydralic system so plan on a new filter, new fluid, and a screen cleaning. My hunch tells me those tune ups will not solve this problem.

Has anyone experienced this kind of operation from the SCV before?
(JD 4100 with 410 loader, 480 hrs)

I did a search and learned much about the hydraulic systems on this board, sounds like there are many possibilities when troubleshooting.

I have a 4110, the replacement for the 4100...

There are two linkages that connect the joystick to the SCV, I have a feeling that the pivoting parts of the linkages (ball joints) are very dry and sticking causing your problems. Take the cover off, wash the linkages down with WD40 or something similar as you move the joystick, and I think you'll be in good shape.

There is nothing in the valve itself that can cause the problems you are having, the spools are completely separate except for the linkage.

Hmmm, I experienced very slow ops, but nothing like what you described. That service may knock this right out.

I would try to use something a little more long lasting than WD40 on the linkage but I would also check the quick connects on the hydralic lines to the FEL. Actually take them apart an reconnect them as a visual check won't cut it. I have bumped mine in the bush and found the same problem when one was just slightly out of place....

Guys, thanks a million for your comments and recommendations. I will give them all a try this weekend and let you know. They all make sense.

I cannot wait to get the FEL working the way it suppose to like I remember it did at one time.
