While riding around on my tractor, and looking at my pool which will soon be closed, I'm thinking about getting a solid safety cover. I've inquired at a couple of pool stores, and they seem to agree that "Loop-Loc" (the one with the elephant as their ad) is the best.

My pool in in-ground, 18' x 40' and I've been using the basic cover since I've been in the house (9 years).

My wife is already sold on the idea, so I WILL be getting one, it's just a matter of deciding which one.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I sold and installed Loop Loc pool covers for years, and they are one of the best. Funny you should mention the elephant ad. We had the same lit. years ago and it is eyecatching, but loop loc told us not to use it because people would try to walk on it. Now tell me why they would make the same lit for 20 yrars if they didn't want us to use it?
One thing to keep in mind is if you are used to opening your pool and seeing sparkling clear water you will probably be shocked the first time you open it after using a "secure" cover. Water and some light will get thru and the pool will be green when you open it, but a good shocking will take care of that. I always tell people to un=winterize the pump, and fill the pool up to operating level and start clorinating the pool a week or so before uncovering it. That way the algae will be killed and the water clear, but the bottom will need a real good vacuuming. HTH, Nat

I have that same cover for my pool.It has a small pump that sits on the cover & pumps off rain water. The water in the pool is as clear when I uncover the pool as it was when I cover it. I love this cover but, you need 2 people to cover & uncover.

Kenmac, I wouldn't argue with you as it is your pool, but I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that secure covers will keep their pool clear. The vast majority of time when we uncover pools that have a secure cover on them they are green. I'm not saying yours is or that all are but most are green and I don't want anyone to figure for the exception, figure for the norm and if you find the exception your ahead. Thanks, Nat

If I shocked my pool before covering it for the winter, It was always crystal clear when I opened it. Except that time I needed help getting the cover off because of the water on top. This water had an entire winters worth of rotted leaves in it and most of it went into my pool water while I was trying to syphon it off.

Had a loop-loc loved it. Will get one again.

BUT, Even with the cover on, I still did semi-monthly testings of the water.

One the pool was brand-new gunite.
Two I wanted to make sure I had NO surprises when it came time to open it.

It was usually ready for swimming with 24-48 hours after opening. Needed to run the heater to get into it on occasion.

The cover was number 1.

-Good luck.

Ive had the loop loc on my pool for the past 12 years and it has held up quite well. Its starting to show some age now but not bad for all those years !

Have had both. The old covers with the water bags took hours and sometimes days to pump off and get off and still all the leaves are inside. The loop loc, although the water turns green because sun light goes through it, takes me 15 minutes to put on and 15 minutes to get off with no leaves in the pool. Now if you go with a salt filter, the green is gone in two days and NO, yes, I said NO chemicals at all. Will definetly but another safety cover if this one ever wears out.

Nat, When the co. put the pool in approx 5 yrs ago ,they told me that the solid cover kept the rain water out & that is what turns the water green . I don't know about all this but, I do know I never have had green water when I open the pool for 4 summer.I do shock it b-4 installing the cover.
