Pony motor wont start

I have a 720 diesel. The pony motor starter will run but will not turn over the pony motor. What suggestions go you have?

Sounds like your bendix isn't engaging. Do you belong to the Two Cylinder club? These folks would be a great help to you with the tractor you own. They have a Technical Council that could help and point you to needed parts or operating tips. Their website is: www.two-cylinder.com

I would check and see that the battery is fully charged. If it is not it could not be spinning fast enough to engage the bendix.

Do you have any suggestions of what I could do to get the bendix engaged? I am using a new battery.

Pull the starter off. The Bendix is either broken or rusted up. If rusted clean & grease up. If broken replace it.

I tried to take a short cut and that is why the bendix didn't kick in. I had a new battery and did not want to put it in the seat compartment so I set it on the floor and used some heavy jumper cables. The cables didn't put enough juice to the starter so once I took the time and put the battery where it was supposed to be it worked!!! I hadn't started the 720 for at least 10 months and it started right away. Thanks for your help I really appreciated it.

Now for another question. I would like to get the 3 point hook up arms for my 720. Where could I get these at a reasonable price? John Deere can get them for me but I would have to take a loan out buying through them!!!
