Im going to my dealer tomorrow to look at a few 3pt spreaders. A steel befco 209, poly landpride 500 and 1000. The 500 i think is going to be too small. I am going to be liming, fertilizing but MAINLY spreading grass seed over freshly core aerated large lawns. The befco 209 and the landpride 1000 are avout the same in spec, so i think the larger volume carried would be benificial for the seed. My question is that I have a jd poly tow behind for my 595 abd after 5-6 years its developed some nice cracks arount bolts and such. So poly worries me. I know its rust proof but with a steel unit i can always weld a crack or sand and paint. Im at a loss here... Any thoughts?

Ive been using a poly seeder for about 4yrs now and it seems to be holding up fine. I have a plastic/poly welder so if it does ever crack i can fix it. The welder comes in verry handy at times.

I have a steel one, but when the time comes to replace it I'll be getting one with a poly cone, and as much stainless steel as I can find.

I have a tow behind JD poly spreader and a TurboSpin T450 in steel, these should be very similar to what you are referencing. If you are looking for comercial use or "frequent use' over a five or six year period you should get your money's worth from either one.

Keeping a spin spreader clean and covered will do more to extend the life of either one you choose.

I purchased the Landpride FSP 1000 Poly spreader. I have only used it once and it worked great. I got the biggest size so I could spread more and fill up less. It has a nice agitator to eliminate bridging. I did see a picture of an old poly hoper that had this type of agitator and it looked like it wore a circle around the inside so I'm keeping and eye on mine. I might take it off and see how it does. There is a small flanged agitator at the bottom that spins and keeps the flow going. The poly is light and easy to move around by hand if you need to. I got the poly for the anti-rust factor. I'm guessing a 3 pt poly wouldn't take as much abuse as a tow behind so maybe it would last longer.

I see you have a PL-72. How do you like it? I'm thinking of getting the PL-60 for my JD 3520. It looks like a good unit and Woods is a good name.
Thanks for any insight you can give me.

I have a landpride FS1000 for serveral years now, to much fertilizer the rusted holes in the tank and too bad for duct tape any more. I just replaced with a poly tank and am going to install hyd cylinder on it to open and close doors (its hard to reach to handle with cab and quick hitch). If your spreading any thing that will not bridge I remove the agitator from the unit.Less wear on tug and agitator wheel.

I ended up going with the steel befco, better price, heaver lever mechanism and yeah i coulnt see myself reaching the landpride lever from the cab. Yhe befco was angled muuuch longer

I have an open station 3520 so its no trouble reaching the lever on the Landpride FSP 1000.

Hi,
I'm jumping in here with LHS.....it amazing, I am in the exact same quandry in Virginia. The poly ones are a little more expensive and most have NO AGITATOR. The metal ones are a little heavier and can rust but have agitators...... is this a consideration? And how much heavier are the large ones.....I'll have to man-handle it by myself.:confused2:
I've never used one at all........I appreciate your input too. Thanks, Rob
