I don't know what it is like in your state, but in my "battle ground state" of PA, I have received on average of 6-10 political phone calls each day. I have 2 children ages 2 1/2 and 9 months. I couldn't tell you how many times these calls have awaken both children. At this point I did not want to vote for anyone since they have no regard for the american family. The very few times that the calls were not recordings, I told the caller to never call again, but to no avail. How many of you feel the same way

Political calls are not covered under the do not call list - go figure!

Just after posting my original message about politcal messages, I received a call from the teen band "The Jonas Brothers". They left a number to remove me from their calling list. I think that if I am on a "do not call list", I should not have to call a number to get off their list. I checked on the Federal do not call list web site and was informed that if a caller left a number to get off their call list it was OK. WHY! have a do not call list if you or I have to go out of our way to avoid these calls.

The recorded calls have a pause before they begin...if they hear the tone that indicates a disconnected service, they not only hang up, most programs remove that number from their database. I paid a fellow on ebay a couple bucks years ago for that sound file in some form and....I recorded it at the start of my voice mail. Cut way back on calls before the DNC list. One could also put it on a recorder, and when you answer and hear the pause that lets you know it's a recording coming, play that tone. Likely your number will be removed from that database.

Follow this script the next time you get a telemarketing call...

A woman here at work was doing a survey on who had received the political calls vs. who hadn't. The only people that had received them were on the Do Not Call list. Everyone in her little survey that was not on the Do Not Call list had not received any calls. Nothing scientific, just thought it was interesting.

We are on the DNC list but also have an unlisted number. The only phone calls we get are from the companies we do business with who are trying to sell us something. They are excused from the DNC.

No political calls at all.

The only reason we have the land line is for the DSL and 911 service. We don't use the land line phone to call out at all.

Later,
Dan

Ha, I had to laugh when I saw this thread. Mondays are always a busy day for me and my business. Now, don't confuse "busy" with necessarily "profitable"; if you know what I mean. Anyway, I was having one of 'those' Mondays this last Monday and got one of those political calls on my personal (as opposed to business) cell phone at a rather bad time.

I sort of violated my civility with people rule in that conversation. I first explained to him that he'd reached me on a private, for family and emergency use only, cell phone. He ignored me and proceeded with his script. It took me calling him a rather bad name to get him to stop reading his script. Believe it or not, he then asked me why I was being rude to him! OMG!! I went through the entire (true) story of exactly why I carry a private and personal cell phone in addition to my regular cell phone. First, I have five kids and I want all of them to be able to reach me at any time. Next, obviously my wife has a direct line to me; for better or worse. ;) Finally, I have two very close relatives who are in the final stages of passing from cancer and they have that number.

I was actually with a long time business client at this time and only answered that cell for the previous reasons, which he understands. By the time I'd told the campaigner how rude he was by ignoring my initial polite comments to him about reaching me on a private cell, how rude he was for continuing to ignore me, how rude he was by interrupting me with his script whenever I did speak, I think he finally understood how rude his call actually was. I say this because, get this, he has his 'supervisor' call me on that same line 5 minutes later to apologize! Grrrrrr! What part of "don't ever call me on this phone number again" was difficult for them to understand?!

I guess I think any unsolicited call from a stranger on my cell phone is unacceptable. Anyone else get a call on their cell number? I'm told my number came up by a machine that "randomly generates" numbers for them to call as to assure a non-skewed cross section of voters.
