Where is a good place to get barn plans? I need to get something that's engineer stamped...nothing really fancy...just good storage and work space.

I assume you want to build it yourself. You can usually get a material package price from local material supply companies and they will provide the drawings you need.

Well, I used to be a video engineer, at least that's what the papers I signed every night said...does that count?

In my county, that would probably be good enough!

I am in the same boat. The folks that sell plans want to build the barn and won't just sell you plans. There are people that will give or sell you plans cheap but they won't be stamped. The stamping engineers often want to prepare the drawings so they won't stamp your drawings. It's like a racket.

I happen to be a licensed civil engineer but I will try and pull some strings to get someone with insurance to stamp mine. I plan to draw my own and shop engineers. There is nothing to the plans. The engineering calcs can be difficult but are standard so if the engineer has done it once, he can do it a thousand times.

The truss manufacturer can take care of providing proper documentation for their end. I was able to get a set of stamped prints at the lumber company who supplied the steel and lumber package.

In NY and many other states we have a cooperative extension service that has some types of plans ready to go for agricultural purposes. i have found many plans online as well by just searching in google.

That does not work here in Northwest Georgia. I tried that at the local building supply, Lowes, and Home Depot. All I got at the big stores was blank stares and the guy at the building supply suggested I go to the book store in town that has been closed for over 10 years!

I am looking for planes as well.

Try this website:

Pole Barn Plans

This guy can provide standard or custom plans at very reasonable cost, and can provide engineer stamped plans for any state.

I dealt with these people and found them to be very reasonable, very helpful, very responsive, and provided excellent quality materials.

Here's a link to some public-domain plans from the University of Tennessee that may give you some ideas. However, they are not stamped.

Agricultural Building and Equipment Plan List

I see that you are in NC. Please educate me. I plan to add additional machinery storage at my farm in the future. I wasn't aware that stamped plans were required for outbuildings in my county (Iredell). Do you know if the requirement for stamped plans is state-wide?
