I would like to build some sliding doors for a pole barn with a 24蜘ide opening and 12 in height. I was thinking of using a double track so I could have better access using 3 - 8 doors. Anyone have any thoughts on this, I have heard that the cannonball style track system is better.
Thanks,
John

I am in the same boat! I just ordered a couple of something the Lumber Company guy called "EZ Frames", which are "U" shaped metal Chanel's, predrilled and designed to accept horizontal 2x6s cut to the width of the door and become the vertical edges on either side of the door. It seemed like a pretty cool idea, plus he showed me a door constructed using these on one of the pole buildings at the lumber yard. That door was probable 15' tall and at least the same wide and was as solid as a rock!

I'll be sure to document my progress with pictures and hope you do he same.

Due to width constraints, I have some double doors on my barn. Two are four panels and two are two panels. I had some of the square track on hand so I used it for three doors with one of the four panels being the cannonball track. The cannonball track does roll easy even with plywood panels set into the lower half of the door to minimize the damage should one of our horses kick the metal clad door.

I don't have metal guide rails on the door bottoms and I don't know how much of an issue it would be to put them in. You can use standard hardware for the sides and center but I have not found something specifically made to secure the two left or right panels.
