For any of you that have built grapples and or snowplows on their loaders, what did you plumb the lines with? I plan to plug into my power beyond and run 2 lines to under the deck where the loader quick connects are and install another set, then up the loader frame to the valve, I have a 2 section I want to install, 1 double acting for the angle on my snow plow or grapple, the other is a single acting valve with float to run the cutter heads on my Mower or Chopper. Then I need to run down the loader arm with 2 lines and another set of quick connects to switch implements. The rub is that I am no prima-donna however I don't like the idea of rubber hoses running down the loader arms.

3/8" Brake lines?

1/4" Black Iron?

What have you all used? from the factory all the lines are steel, they look like brake lines to me.

Thanks

I don't think black iron will withstand 3000 PSI, I would suggest steel lines rated for that much pressure.

Definitely NOT break lines

I did this last year for for my plow cyllinders and for future attachments such as grapple control. i have an open center system and my FEL is open center with a PB port. I simply put a single spool valve that was open center rated at the right pressure in line from my pump to the FEL valve. Initially my line from the pump went to the FEL valve and then out from the FEL valve supplling my rear remotes and then on to my 3pt then to the sump. By putting the new control valve in line I am just diverting the flow to the plow cylinders. Of course when you do this as operating the FEL control you can't do it at the same time, but you can only do one thing at a time anyway. Back to your one question, I ran a small 1/2" line from my new valve to the FEL valve and used 3/8" lines to my front QD fro the plow/grapple control all normal 3000-4000 psi hydraulic lines. My setup is simple but works well

Heres my thread fro my valve install

Lots of info in the hydraulic forum;)

NO black pipe
NO soft steel brake lines either, you deal with 3000+ PSI counting shock loads.

Hydraulic Tubing w/ JIC flares (nuts and sleeves).......use male JIC bulkhead adapters where rigidity is needed ....
JIC Bulkhead Union....
(like where QC's start/end or tube to hose transition ).......use male JIC on hoses to connect to tubing flares........

This is the best looking install but labor intensive if farmed out.......tubing bender and flare kit needed......

wdchyd, were did you get the hydraulic tubing and what size? I'm in the planning stage for a grapple and would like to use tubing were I can instead of hoses. I'm planning on using surplus center Item# 9-7852 with a switch on the FEL control. Summit racing has some shifter balls that are designed for NOS or brake locks with built in switches. Anyone see any problems with these ideas?

ch47dpilot,

I stock steel tubing from 1/4" OD to 1 1/2" OD in 20-24' random lengths and accessories at work (Hydraulic Shop).....we order via flat bed truck along with our chrome plated rod stock (24' long also).....makes it worthwhile as far as shipping costs.....

You'll need to find a local supplier as UPS limits the length to ship....make sure you specify "Hydraulic Fluid Line Tubing".......(J525)

It's pretty easy to bend and flare small diameters (up to 1/2") by hand.......larger sizes will require heavier bending eqipment......buy some extra for the learning curve and mistakes....buy heavier wall thickness for added durability (some companies only stock thin stuff)

For most tractor application 3/8 & 1/2" OD is common......Look into the JIC Bulkhead adapters and weld-on clamps (single and double) for a nice professional install......and don't forget to prime and paint (the tubing comes plain not coated)......

Where are you located..??

I'm in LA(lower Alabama), about 1+ hrs north of Panama City FL. Do you know of an online supplier of hydraulic tubing and the JIC Bulkhead adapters and weld-on clamps (single and double)?

Try these guys........hydraulic tubing - Hydraulic Supply Co.

Be aware there are length maximums for UPS shipping (7 ft or so) unless you find a branch close enough to drive.......just use a pickup truck with a long pipe or angle iron on a pipe rack to carry 20' lengths.....(to keep from bending going down road)....
