Plowing, Tilling, and Planting with the 4340C

Been doing some work with the tractor and lovin every minute of it. Don't have any pics of plowing but some of the fields afterwards. Some pics of tilling some wet dirt, had to go out and try it, didn't get stuck but came close. Wish I had the r1 bar tires but just have to wait for it to dry up a little more. Also just started planting for the first time with the planter I picked up a couple months ago. Worked well behind the tractor. Many people told me that it would be to much for it, but no problem at all. Well this is just the begining of the season. I plan on putting in some more sweet corn, field corn, and some soybeans. Also a garden for vegatables. That just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

If anyone else has pics of them using there tractor or these reasons feel free to post picks on this thread. Gotta love pics.

Hey JDKId,

Looks like you have the perfect tractor for your needs. I love the pictures! Now that is what a tractor is for... getting down and dirty in the field.
The 4340 is one fine tractor... I love mine....

Hi Kid, I was just wondering if you got that nice fluffy soil with the just the tiller or did you open it up first with a cultivator or plow. Looking at doing a similar field which is now my front yard to get a nice seed bed for the grass later this summer.

Yup, I do love mine to. I wasn't planning on getting it that dirty that soon because I haven't even got my first scratch on it yet, but you are right that is what it is for. Hope to have many more dirty pictures soon

The field in hte pics are when I first hit it with the two bottom plow and then tilled it. You can ge the same results with the the tiller just have to go really slow and make multiple passes. If you are doing this for your lawn I would recommend just using the tiller because if you plow it first you will have a kinds of rocks to pick. This and one other field on my property are the only ones with very few rocks becuase they have been picked for the last 30 - 40 years. The rest I am very leary of using the tiller becuase there are many huge rocks, so will use the disk.
Also been raining again here so can't get any more work done until I get at least 4 or 5 good drying days.

Looks like you made a great choice and are very happy with it. My wife and I just purchased an R2844 and love it. We bought it with loader, 72" mid mount mower and both R4 and turf tires on wheels. The day after I took delivery I had it at a local "plow days" sponsored by a local Farmall collectors club. Being just an "old" farm kid myself I knew most of the older guys that were there and had used much of the older equipment, M's H's and so forth. The guys all loved having my new tractor there and took a lot of time looking it over. They were all impressed with it's features and how well it was built. I had taken my own one bottom 16" mounted plow with me, which I had with my older tractor but encouraged by other hooked on to an older 2 bottom 16" John Deere trailer plow. I was a bit apprehensive but it handled it just fine! I'm really impressed with this tractor and it certainly appears that you are putting yours to work and loving it as well. Good luck.

Just figured I would update this thread with pictures of this years work. I did alot more this year as I was helping out a couple buddies put in some crops and did some food plots. All together I probably worked up 20 or so acres. About 4-5 acres of my own.

I put in about 3 acres of sweet corn. About the same as last year. 1/2 acre of green and yellow beans. 1/4 acre of pumpkins. And then my garden that is about 150' x 200' that has tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, onions, peas, carrots, yellow squash, zucchini, cucumbers, califlower, and a few other things.

Weather this year hasn't been to bad. Wet early spring, dry late spring and summer, and now just the right amount of rain. So hoping to be a good growing season.

Some Tilling Pictures.
Most of the fields that I tilled were dry but I had a couple that were still wet in spots so I had to come back and do them later.
I can still say that my KKII 6ft tiller was a very wise investment.

Here are a few pictures of my neighbor and I tilling up a 3 acre area for him to plant field corn. It goes pretty fast when you are tilling 11 feet wide passes.
