Plow for Yanmar YM1700?

Hi Folks. I am looking at this for my Yanmar YM1700 2WD.

Will a YM1700 pull this for a large, but family garden?

Thanks - obviously I have zero plowing experience. I use my YM1700 to cut the grass....

1) Yes, would probably work - but I can't tell the size of the plow.
2) google: ferguson moldboard plow manual <-- this will teach you how to measure plow size & how to plow.
3) post pics of it when you get it 'unplanted' so we can see the whole animal.

Ford also put out a plow manual for their 1939 - 1952 'N' tractors. They are generally 2 bottom [your YM will not likely pull more than a 1 bottom] but there is good plow info in there.

I had a JD4100 4wd. I pulled a one bottom 12” plow with it in 4x4. It was marginal but got the job done when soil conditions were damp. I sometimes had to go over the ground several times because heavy clay would stop my tractor if I went too deep. I’d say that your tractor is marginal for pulling a bottom plow.

Well, the plow sold before I could go get it. Im looking for a single bottom moldboard plow now that wont break the bank... None near me on face book market place or craigslist.

I do not think a 1,900 pound bare weight, 2-WD tractor with 17-horsepower, when new, can manage a three shank All Purpose Plow in hard ground. If the garden has been there, cultivated, for two or three years, it might pull OK.

A forward rotation PTO powered roto-tiller is probably optimum for a large garden, except for the likely price. Tiller also has a short learning curve, unlike a turning plow which requires considerable time to learn proper adjustment.

If you decide to continuer search for a turning plow look for a 12" wide plow first.
A 14" plow is a little harder to pull than a 12" plow, a 16" wide turning plow inverts almost twice the dirt of a 12" plow and will likely be too much for your tractor.

If your garden has been worked annually so the ground is already soft a garden cultivator may suffice. A cultivator will leave the ground much smoother than a turning plow. A cultivator only penetrates 2" to 4" so they are pretty easy to pull. Again, minimal learning curve.

Thanks - I'll look for a 12" plow. I went ahead and bought this: Middle Buster, Category 1, 3-Point Quick Hitch

I saw a video of a YM1700 using one on youtube. I'll see if it will break up my southern Mississippi soil - I don't have any roots or rocks where I will being turning the soil. I have a 5' disc I can use too after busting up the soil with the middle buster. I can always make multiple, deeper passes too.
