PLEASE practice fire safety this holiday season

I need to attend a funeral service this coming Friday for a wonderful couple who were very close relatives of my girlfriend. They were killed in an early morning house fire last Saturday morning, and the fire marshal determined the blaze was caused by christmas decorations that had been left on overnight.

Having only met them for the first time at their daughter's wedding last summer, I didn't know them well, but do know they were highly respected in their community. We should be celebrating this holiday season instead of attending funerals, so please practice fire safety.

I am often guilty of being negligent when it comes to fire safety and have had a few close calls over the past few years, but I will definitely be taking much more care from now on.

Please accept my deepest sympathies to you and your girlfriend.

so sorry to hear of your friends departure, never a good time but when it happens this time of year
it seems to hurt worse

speaking of fire safety, i had a bad smoke detector that needed replacing, one of the hard wired ones
in the house. this is the 3rd of 10 or so that have gone bad. I ordered a 4 pack, and will replace the bad
one and have spares. while i was ordering, i ordered 2 carbon monoxide detectors, one for my basement
where i just installed a coal stoker stove, and one for my son who this year has installed a pellet stove.
while i was at it, i ordered a bunch of fire extinguishers to give away for christmas, just felt the urge
to make sure our family were all protected best we can be. hopefully many others will do that same
and we won't hear of as much loss of life.

We had a local couple die this year due to a fire on the stovetop, they had no smoke alarms, the fire burned itself out. They were both school teachers, some one went to check on them and found them in bed, there was very little smoke damage.
