Ford 4000
My farther recently got his hands on an old ford tracker with a backhoe and front end loader. It is a 4 cylinder gas with a 10 speed sos and no live pto It has ford 4000 decals on the hood and side panels the problem is when trying to read the serial and model numbers things aren't quite adding up.

We had to take a wire bush to the top left of the transmission in order to make the numbers (see pics)
M 1311 or 1811
S 71244 or 71244
the metal was quite worn and pitted so it is very difficult read clearly.

Other numbers I was able to write down were on the engine, side of the transmission and the rear end
Engine 310609
Side of transmission 312259 CWC C319
Rear end CONN 4024E

After doing a bit of research on the tractor I think it might be a 800's series that was repainted and badged a 4000. However the front end seems quite
heavy like an industrial 1811 tractor. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

By looking at the grill, it is definitely not an ag. model. If I had to guess, I would say it is an early 4000 industrial. The 1962-1964 4000s where basically 800s with slight changes to the sheet metal and different color paint. After that they completely changed the tractor and went with the 3 cylinder engines.

it is most likely a 801 series industrial thats why the bellhousing has 1811 on it that is the industrial model also it is the same exact tractor has a prior model industrial 4000 so parts will work with either model

the only major difference between a industrial and ag model will be the front axle, tie rods and nose cone on the industrial is heavier than the ag models

We already pulled the carb and put a rebuild kit on it. Next we are going to start flushing the systems and changing the fluids. My dad is concerned about what type of transmission fluid it takes and whether or not the model will change what type it needs.

From looking online it looks like the industrial versions where yellow. On this one however the sheet metal panels had the original blue paint and the decal were the normal ford 4000's but that doesn't rule out that they were just added on later.

I know conventional thinking would tell you that different models would make a difference on a lot of things. However, in this case ford just painted the same tractor a different color and changed the model number. The parts are all interchangable. The only thing you may have difficulty with is some of the front axle related parts, as they are the only thing mechanically different than your tractor's agricultural counterparts (the 801 and 4000).
