PLEASE HELP! 18hp Briggs Fuel Problem

I have a twin briggs and stratton motor in my MTD and it isnt getting any fuel. It starts and runs fine if I put fuel down the carb throat. I bought the fuel pump kit but that didnt change anything. There is vaccume suction coming from the lower part of the engine but when I take my fuel line off at the tank there is no suction. I replaced the fuel lines and filter and there still is no suction. I need help to fix my problem. Thanks.

When you say there's vacuum coming from the lower part of the engine, what do you mean? The fuel pump should have a suction and supply side. The suction side should be connected to the fuel tank. If you put your finger over the suction fitting on the fuel pump when the engine is running, do you feel anything? I assume it's one of those little plastic diaphram pumps.

Have you checked the float? I've had trouble with my float stticking more than once.

Your probably another victim of ethanol. Take your carb apart and clean it(don't spray any carb cleaner on rubber parts like the gaskets or seat, it will ruin them) straight Simple Green works pretty good. If you see anything that looks like tan cottage cheese deposits in there, that's what ethanol does...gums things up. Put it back together and try it.

I vote for ethanol issues also. I had the same problem with 3 engines last summer. Had to replace all the fuel lines, had to rebuild 2 carbs and replace one carb all together as even cleaning didnt help.

No on all i buy is non ethanol premium for the smaller engines.
