I'm about to go completly insane. I think I can change all fluids and filters on a tractor before I can get this darn thing figured out. I'm talking about the ends of the plastic saftey guard where they connect into the grove (just before the u-joints) on the PTO shaft. This perticular one is on a Land Pride mower and is a "twist-lock" type. It does not have a screw, but rather some type of small cam lock that appears to do nothing when turned or "unlocked." The manuel (which I have read five times trying to figure this out) does not touch on the subject. I like having the guards but this is just so unuser friendly its crazy. I've tried everyting to get it off less busting it on purpose. I'm begining to think it may have been assembled incorrectly, or a defective manfacturing run. Anyone else been through this? Help Please!

I believe they are using the 'eurocardan' style of shaft.. similar to TSC shaft. That little twist lock deal is a bugger. I also fould that you have to pry out a meatl locking ring with a small screwdriver or a pick.. Takes lots more time than the twist-to-unlock one on my KK mower.

You are correct. That is the type of guard. I ended up calling LandPride and talking to the tech. I was told there are 3 white plastic tabs that need to be pushed down at the same time to unlock the guard. I was under the impression that these needed to "pop-up", my bad. The tech was quite honest too, He said most of the time it is very difficult to remove. He mentioned 3 screwdrivers jammed into the white tabs prying them down might help (not exactly by-the-book). He also mentioned that about 1/2 of all he has worked on have broken during removal. It occurs to me this is a very poor design.

I am glad someone else thinks these are a pain in the a-- as well. I a mechanical engineer and I could never figure out how they would ever work. I guess the answer is they never do.

Yes it is a bit harder than buttering bread but once you know how it is done it is easy. The primary PTO MFG for LandPride is Eurocardan. The cone on the end is held in place from turning by a plastic pin that has a "D" shaped head. Align the "D" shaped head so you can pull the pin out toward the PTP quick connect yoke. Once the pin has been removed the cone will be rotate freely around so you pull the shield off over the white plastic catches. See the Picture Attached.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I see what you are saying, and I have seen that picture before as well. I think what you are calling a "D-shaped plastic pin" I called a "cam." I considered trying the technique you described but I can't identify any way for the "D-shaped plastic pin" to be removed from its housing. If you try to pry it out the plastic housing just deforms and prevents removal of the pin. The pin does NOT simply pop-out as you describe. It has a slot so you can turn it very easily, but it does not come out as far as I can tell.

BTW, what is PTP?

Mark is correct about the pin. I had a heck of a time until I figured out exactly how it works. The pin you say ( does NOT simply pop-out as you describe ) you are correct about that. It is "D" shaped and so is the hole in the shield. If you turn the pin while looking down through the space where the head is located you can tell which way the flat is located. turn this flat to the position that matches the design in the shield and then you can pry the pin out a bit and the shield will rotate and can be slipped free. One last note; the shield slides toward the opposite end of the shaft and not off the end. I'm sure you already knew that but I wanted to mention it in case someone reads this in the future.
