I have plans of buying a new Kubota in March of 2002. I currently live on about 3 acres of land. I would use my kubota strickly for finish mowing as well as some landscaping and plowing gardens. My parent's own about 5 acres of land some 2 hours from me. This land is somewhat undeveloped. So, I plan to use this tractor for clearing land (parent's land) and building new fence line. I also hope to use the tractor for pushing snow during the winter. If I was only using the tractor at my home, I would most likely choose the B2710. However, with the addition work that I would be using this tractor while at my parents, should I consider the L3010 or L3410. I plan to buy at first a FEL and mid mounted mower for which ever tractor I choose. I live in the beautiful Shendoah Valley of Virginia, could someone give me an idea as to what I would pay for the above tractors as while as some dealers in the area. I would appreciate any information that you could give me in my selection.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott, it's difficult for anyone to give you a "good" answer without knowing just how tough the "clearing land" will be. I usually recommend the biggest tractor you can afford, but to mow 3 acres and work on another 5 acres? Nothing wrong with the B2710. That's what I use on my 10 acres, occasionally on my brother's 10 acres, my brother-in-law's 10 acres, etc. My prices are two years old, and in another part of the country, so yours may vary, but I paid $12,600 for the tractor, $2,900 for the front end loader, $1,695 for a 3-point finish mower (probably $3k to $5k more for a mid-mount mower), and $295 for a steel canopy.

One thing to consider: March is the begining of the busy season, and I'd bet that most dealers are less likely to wheel and deal when the spring selling season is just starting. I bought my JD in late October and the dealer was very happy not to have to carry the machine over the winter. I ended up getting a lot of options I would not have paid extra for by waiting late in the season...just a suggestion...your milage may vary.

I agree... most dealers are not independently wealthy... they don't own any of the new equipment on the lot... they are floor planned and that means paying interest after 90 days in most cases for something sitting there doing nothing while waiting for Mr. & Mrs. Buyer to come along and take home...

The name of the game in sales is turnover... it won't make you any money sitting there...

Also the next year's model's start arriving late Fall/ early Spring... most of the time in Ag equipment, it's minor updates and of course the annual price increase whether it needs it or not...

The bottom line, waiting for that 2002 model over the 2001 model sitting on the lot will cost you more money {guaranteed it's going to cost the dealer more money... so why not you?}, you normally don't gain any extra features for waiting {unless it's a major line change} and the dealer has a big incentive to move what he already owns with the floor plan company...

So try this test, walk onto a dealer's lot in October or November and talk some turkey... you already have an idea what you want to spend now... if you don't buy it then, start saving extra money you'll need come March 2002 for the same thing...

Scott,
I also live in the Shenandoah Valley, I would recommend High View tractor sales located in High View WVA just outside of Winchester off route 50 west. I own 6 acres and bought a B 7500 I use it mostly for mowing and brush hogging also plan on plowing snow this winter. I think it would do what you need, however always good to get as much tractor as you can afford. Ask for Frank at the dealer. I'll look up the phone number and post it later.

There's a huge Kubota dealership in Staunton. I have drove by it several times while working there but haven't made the time to stop. I know how I am and I'm afraid a 5 minute visit would be an hour or two and it's a 5 1/2 hour drive home. BTW the dealership is HUGE! Did I stress it's really big?

scott: for the amt. of land u want to take care of , and the amt of snow u will get in virgina, i think u might be looking at to large a machine u might want to downsize and spend the extra on more implements. if money is no object go for the big tractor, but be advised that sometimes bigger is not better. too big and u have some problems. but u know your needs and conditions better than we do

Scott,
You may want to call Modern Tractor in Johnson Tenn (800-540-1704) and talk to Steve Bowman. I bought a 2710, 402 FEL, 72" MMM, 4 Position loader valve, Filled turf tires and a canopy for $18,000 delivered to NY.
As for tractor size, I think that the 2710 or 2910 will do anything that you ask of it at a reasonable price.

Good Luck
Dale
