Placed 2011 NH Boomer into "forward" gear, and it grinds, I then have to put the shift back into "forward" gear and it will continue to stay in gear.

Is this the synchro causing the problem? Can I repair in my garage? I've worked on vehicles over the years etc. and have several tools for repair. First time owning a tractor. Thanks in advance!

Sounds like clutch issues to me. Is the freeplay in the pedal set correctly as per your owners manual (that I presume you have?) If not rule of thumb is 1-1.5" of freeplay in the pedal.

I wish it was the clutch. This is the shifter on the dash/ left side that allows to go into forward or reverse. The stick shift stays in gear and works fine. I may not have explained correctly...sorry about that.

Thanks

I would presume then it's a wet pack 'hydraulic shuttle'. If it is, the clamping and unclamping pressure is out of speck or the proportioning valve itself is faulty. That happens, they are (valve) is real sensitive to any dirt in it.

First thing I'd do is a complete fluid and filter change and don't use cheap TSC hydraulic fluid either. Use a quality (and mid priced fluid) and quality CNH filters too. That may cure the issue. If not, you need to check the clamp and unclamp pressure via the port on the valve with a liquid fill 4000 psi pressure gauge. If it's within specs (which will be in the workshop manual) then it's time to pull the valve and replace it. It's external to the transmission so not a big deal, least on mine it is.

Hi 5030,

I'll give that a try. I just bought the tractor so I was planning on going thru the fluids etc. anyway.
Thank you for the assist!
