Pintle hitch variations

First one I've never seen and it looks like it's bent. Second one is a special kind, a penile hitch, the more you use it, the stiffer it gets

The difference is on (left pic) was paid for by tax dollars, it will rotate 360*.
The one on the right is a typical, "eye" that works just as well and is selected with concern about function & cost, usually by an individual or business.
Beside my sarcasm, they both do the same thing & I would opt for the ridgid model on the right. I have a surplus military "wagon" with this rotating lunette eye and it can be a pain to hook up to as it will rotate when your backing up to it rather than bumping in to it and "jiggling" it by hand to fall on to the hook. The ridgid eye will provide more than enough rotation for normal use without binding up.

The ring on my trailer can rotate and has three holes to adjust the height. There's a large nut that has a cotter pin in it. I keep the threads well lubricated so it's real easy to set the height, no tools needed. I'm not sure if it needs to rotate as they have some play in them, I guess it depends on what you will use the trailer for. Mine is an equipment trailer and could see some rough terrain so I assume that's why they made it rotate. I think the military trailers also are built to go in rough terrain as the ones I've seen either the ring on the trailer rotates or the pintle on the truck does. Like RI said having it be able to rotate can be a little more of a pain to connect up. You just have to be a little more precise when lining it up.
Interesting comments, but I guess my question wasn't clear. I already have 3 PINTLE hitches.
I was just wondering if I should upgrade to a PINTO hitch, or to a PENILE hitch.

PS: A rotating arrangement can lock in the turned position if the lunette rotates 90 degrees to vertical when backing up in a curve. Then when the tow vehicle pulls forward, the hitch won't straighten. Some pintle hooks have a triangular shape on the bottom to prevent this.
