Most likely a hose but it could be a split steel line, fitting or even a cracked cylinder look it over carefully use a mirror to see underside etc..

And 'usually' loosening these fittings requires 2 wrenches, one to turn the fitting and an other to hold the other end from turning.

"hold the other end from turning"

I can not express the importance of retaining the end that isn't supposed to move.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the term "split steel line". Do you mean in other words, hair line crack in say the stabilizer valve?

I think he meant that if you have steel lines instead of rubber hoses, that one of the steel lines could have a split or crack in it.

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that I fixed the problem myself... with all of your help of course! It was a burst hose after all. I removed the floor panel in the cab and examined the hoses and found a rip in one near the crimp. I wrapped it and covered the floor, then started it up, and sure enough it sprayed in the wrapped area. Then I removed the hose with a pipe wrench.

This morning I brought the hose to a machinery shop and they replaced it for $75 ( an elbow fitting made it cost alot ). Went back, hooked it up, turned it on, worked great, then reattached the floor panel, added hydraulic fluid and I was back to work.

Hi,

I came across this thread while searching how to repair my 1985 JD 410B Backhoe that has the same problem as you did. I have a busted stabilizer hose and it's under the floor pan. Do you still have the information on how to make this repair? I would greatly appreciate it if you could share!
