I have a FEL with a punched steel supply tube. Does anyone have any suggestions on the easiest and cheapest way to fix this? Would cutting out the pinched area and putting a compression fitting work? Thanks

Meant to say pinched not punched.

How pinched is it! If it's not restricting flow, leave it alone. If it is restricting flow and you can cut out just the right lenth and insert a fitting rated for your system I don't see why that wouldn't work!

I wouldn't use a compression fitting unless it was designed for that size AND PRESSURE line. Might price out a replacement line to compare, then have a splice brazed into it.

Edit: As moored4 said, if it isn't causing problems, leave it alone.

To answer the questions, this line I believe is completely restricted. The line runs the right cylinder that raises and lowers the bucket and doesn't seem to move at all with the bucket off (the left does move). I will look into having the whole line replaced. Thanks

you might be able to take the given section of steel pipe off, and take it, to some local tractor dealer / repair shop. and let them cut the bad area out and put in a new section for you.

those HYD lines take some pretty good pressure. and if you do not buy correct fittings rated for pressure for tractor, you can end up with a big mess of hyd oil all over the place. fittings may require some special tool to create correct "flare" for a fitting as well.

ya i have a regular copper pipe flare tool for gas and water lines, but trying to put a flare on the more rigid hyd lines. forget it.

Is this something that could be hammered back? Or is it too kinked? I know you would have to remove the line so you could rotate it as you hammered it.

i'd cut it and then trim back for some weld on fittings, or proper type compression hyd fittings, then plumb in a piece of hose... unless i had some spare tube I coud slightle expand the ends on and used as a double union slip and then braze up...

Trying to straighten out a completely restricted hydraulic steel tube more than likely will result in breakage but I would first attempt it anyway as you have nothing to lose.
If it then does break, I'm off to the OEM store for a duplicate replacement tube because I don't believe in metal tube patch work on high pressure hydraulic systems.

believe it or don't believe it.. it works. I have a fleet of heavy equipment to look after. brazed hyd hard lines are a simple fact of life. your money. nothing wrong with always buying new vs fixing.
