Hello trying to track down a picture (preferably with a ruler in the shot) of the block heater for a GC2300/etc. The MF price is RIDICULOUS and I'd like to find a Kat's model that fits and get away from the magnetic unit I use now. If anyone could post a pic of their heater or point me to one, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mike

MF heater.JPG

28mm diameter

No known aftermarket options.

People have made their own.

In the past, I have gone as far as to e-mail companies like Zerostart to inquire about this, none have responded.

I get along fine without a heater. So, they can all......

Turf,

I do not have the link on hand, but I recently viewed a thread on a different forum ( is it ok to reference other forums?) with a picture of the unit installed on a 2300/2310. The user got the unit from Northern tool, do not quote me but I believe it is around $140. Was described to be an easy install also.

I believe you are mistaken about it coming from Northern Tool. Even if you are not, $140 is what the MF heater costs.

Based on what they cost for other engines, this block heater should cost around $35.

You are correct, Ray. I just found the post from Irving, and he paid $140 from Northwood Power..I guess the "north" got me haha. I apologize for the incorrectness :)

When you say it should cost $35, are you saying the one you pictured (if so who makes it?) is near $35 or $140 is outrageous and most other Manufactures only charge $35?

The one pictured is the OEM $140 unit from MF.

Apparently, there was a deal struck to make these for MF, but not market them on their own.

This is very common.

If the demand ever gets high enough, their could be more options. For now, apparently their aren't enough of these units to get much attention from aftermarket companies.

We can't even get an aftermarket filter company to offer a transmission filter for these. :confused3:

Depending on whether you wanted to risk the $ on potential, what I would do is slightly file the tops of the threads. Fab a plate. Seal the threaded area with plumbers sealant at installation. Hold it tight with the fabbed plate. If necessary put a rubber grommet or brass washer(s) to act as spacer for pressure from the plate. With the compression washer seen in the pics, I'm not even sure the sealant is necessary. Just pressure from the plate should seal it.

If it held at the beginning I would expect a long life.

Just some food for thought. Remember its not my $$$$s. But it is the kind of alternative thing I try.

I for one, am not going to spend $62, to find out if it can be made to work or not.

And, I am pretty good at fabricating things.

I am not a machinist though. A machinist could probably fairly easily make an adapter plate with the o ring slot, and the 28mm threads. But, is that worth his time either?
