Steph and I just got back from our vacation to the Black Hills in South Dakota. It's one of my favorite places in the country and one that Steph has never been to before.

We've been planning this for quite awhile by first ordering all the tourist brochures from every state that we planned on driving through. They have allot of things to see and do that we didn't know about or even realize they excisted.

Our plan was to stay in the Black Hills and see alll the sites. We like to stop at just about anything that interests us while we're driving, so what might take some a day to drive, takes us two days. We also like to take side roads and the long way if there might be something along the waw worth seeing.

We took 1,500 pics and have been deleting them a little every day. I wont subject you to that, but just 69 that I like. To keep it reasonable, I'll post them in groups to break it up.

Mt Rushmore is the largest carving in the world. The heads are 60 feet tall and took 14 years to carve. It's not done, and never will be. Some bad rock was found just under the heads that isn't carvable and the artist died before the final touches were done.

Bear Country USA is a drive through zoo that has animals from North America in it. It's a nice place that seems to get better every time I've been there.

We love to watch and photograph wildlife and there's only a few places as good as Custer State Park and the Black Hills for seeing all sorts of different species out in the open.

Devils Tower was in the movie Close Encounters of a Third Kind. Its our nations first National Monument and was formed as the inner core of a volcano the the outer cone eroded.

The week we were there was the week before Sturgis. It's a VERY BIG big rally that we'd hope do miss, but didn't. Turns out that all the bikers that we met were very friendly. One guy was from a city just a few miles away from us. Except for the noise, they were allot of fun to see!!!

Part of the trip was to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The rest of the time it was spent looking for wildlife and then trying to find bigger ones, or better pics!! :)

There are a couple roads to Mt Rushmore. Probably the most famous is the one with the tunnels. I'd never been on this one before and was suprised at how nice it was.

An hour or so East of Rapid City, and out in the middle of nowhere on Interstate 90 is the Badlands. It looks like flat prarie country from a distance, but then it changes. WOW does it change!!!

We had some idea of a few places we wanted to see on the way home, so it was just a matter of driving and checking out the sites. We didn't see them all, but the only one that dispointed us was the Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska. That looked intersting, but we got there about an hour after they closed.
